Commentary to the article of Mark Dingemans about a "POV check" on "Omar Chkhaidze".

Mark is absolutely right in putting a "POV check" on this article. The Russian art critic (Kira Medvedeva?), who has written this article, was definitely biased. But, it has to be considered that art critics very seldom are neutral and critic highly depends on the cultural background of the criticasters. In my experience I found the Russian art critic in general more exuberant than the West European art critic. I guess also the poor English translation attributed to this jubilant article.

I regret this happened, because, in my view, Omar Chkhaidze is undoubtedly a notable artist. I met him for the first time, when I was,in 1995, on a diplomatic mission in Tiblisi. During my stay in Russia as a Dutch diplomat, from 1995 till 1998, I met him regularly in Moscow and ever since then during my regular visits to Moscow. I witnessed his development and the growing appraisal he got from the international community in Moscow.

As collector of contemporary art I collected a number of his works, among which the triptych Universe and Adam and Eve, which are mentioned in the Wikipedia article.

Loving specific works of art is very personal, but the emotional and technical uniqueness of Omar Chkhaidze's work is beyond any doubt.

He deserves to be mentioned in WikipediA.
