Random unrelated discussions[edit]

Tommy definitely knew Vince from HS, but Mick was the one who pushed to get Vince in the band. Mick was older and wiser and much more of an eye for what it took to go somewhere. It is obvious that Nikki and Tommy really looked to him for direction early on. On the website Chronological Crue it says, "With a phone call later to Nikki and Tommy from Mick, they decide O’Dean is not going to cut it as their singer, so he’s fired. Mick says he wants the singer from Rockandi to be in the band, due to the way he wooed the females in the audience when they saw him perform." Obnviously mick knew the importance of having a charismatic lead singer in the fornt of the band. though Vince has very limited vocal range, he looked good, was a good showman and got girls.

No doubt Mick persuaded Tommy to do the lifting upside down drum thing after his experience with the lifting drum riser in his White Horse days. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.192.113.226 (talk) 21:21, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motley Crue is a Heavy metal band, go to the motley.com shout boards and try and state otherwise for full proof, also the Nikki Sixx section in wikipedia states the crue are heavy metal so how can Mick Mars be in Glam band Motley Crue and Nikki Sixx be in heavy metal band Motley Crue. It also states quite clearly later in the article Mars is a Heavy metal guitarist -. "Unlike many of the hard rock/heavy metal guitarists of his era"

Mick Mars birth year is 1951, per Motley Crue's official website and his daughter Stormy's confirmation coming from her own birth certificate.

Is the list of Mick Mars equipment really necessary, or indeed relevant? As a musician it does have interest but I don't think it's a general interest, and someone who was keen to find out something like that could easily just Google it. I won't delete it now, but I'll let someone else consider it.

i don't see how removing verifiable information in any way adds to an article. Joeyramoney 04:18, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, very common to list equipment for renown artists, albeit it typically plays a relatively small factor in their sound. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.5.171.110 (talk) 07:01, 24 September 2015 (UTC) He is a great guitarist, there is no disputing that, but in this "basic glam/hair metal scene" are high skilled guitarists just common. So he is not that special... 80.109.198.157 17:03, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mick Mars was born in Huntington, Indiana, Not Terre Haute. His mother recently correted this on a radio triva contest in our area.

I added external link to Motley Crue Site[edit]

I added an external link to the Official Motley crue site www.motley.com because it contains further info about the subject of the article and he is currently on tour with the band. So it makes sense that the link be in the article...right?  :-) Monkeybreath 03:25, 4 August 2006 (UTC) I removed it, because its a dead link. Norum (talk) 14:07, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

There were two sets of references for name, place of birth and date of birth. I've removed one as I don't think these things need to be confirmed twice. Thanks INXS-Girl 18:21, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mick was born in Huntington Indiana, confirmed by his mother, Tina and his Cousin Rick Wirt, who I used to see on a weekly basis in Huntington. The Terre Haute birth place is incorrect.

Incorrect birth place[edit]

I live in Terre Haute, IN, and work for Vigo County and have confirmed through the Vital Records office, that no person named Bob or Robert Deal, was born in Vigo County (Terre Haute, CITY), on or about May 4, 1951.

I submitted a request asking for the information. I am not a direct a family member so using Bob's maternal mother and fathers information, I submitted a request for birth records, only asking for a yes or no on the specific data pertaining to his date of birth, which is legal since I have the parental names, I was able to confirm that no such person was born in this city, or county for that matter, for date given, with that name. As a matter of fact, the year 1951, has no Deals being born in this county at all.

Pop Culture Trivia[edit]

  • Attended same grade school as Steve Martin.
  • When he was a child, his brother nearly died due to hanging while playing Cowboys and Indians.
  • In early performances would spit blood like Gene Simmons of KISS, although in the Mötley Crüe autobiography The Dirt, he stated "I can't stand KISS".
  • Refers to himself as the 'old fuck' in Mötley Crüe.
  • Has tattooed on his knuckles 'MARS' on one hand and '1313'("M" being the 13th letter of the alphabet, and having two 13's to signify his initials) on the other.
  • Mars revealed in the Mötley Crüe autobiography The Dirt that his real first name is simply Bob (not Robert).
  • At the Crüe Year's Eve show a female fan pulled Mars off the stage and he had to be rushed to the hospital. He sustained no serious injuries.
  • Tommy Lee stated during an interview for VH1's Behind The Music that after he and Nikki Sixx replied to the want ad Mars had placed in a local newspaper, Mars had arrived for his audition "looking like Cousin Itt from The Addams Family." Nikki Sixx reportedly had a similar reaction upon first meeting Mars, stating "I can't believe it! Here's another one like us!" He and Tommy Lee hired Mars virtually on the spot.
  • Initial of his "given name" spell B.A.D. When he was nearly 18, he legally changed changed his name to Mick Mars because he was scared that his initials, B.A.D., would be a bad omen. [1]

Height?[edit]

I just removed a comment about him now being a lot shorter, but couldn't find a source other than a youtube comment: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iPkR4dsdKIw Mathmo Talk 04:10, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

my revert: [2] Mathmo Talk 04:11, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know which comment you removed - but I can't understand why you removed it. In The Dirt, Mick Mars himself states that his spine had curled up so much that he was now a good three inches shorter than he was in High School. I think this is worth mentioning. On the same note, I'd like to mention that someone without commenting as to why, changed "scoliosis" to "kyphosis" in the quote I put in on that. Maybe kyphosis is the condition he has, but I clearly put the sentence in QUOTATION marks AND made a clear, searchable reference including page number, to the sentence where Mars states he had scoliosis, so why someone feels entitled to changing that to kyphosis is beyond me. Consistancy?[edit]

You know there's a difference between Mick Mars page and Nikki Sixx's page and Tommy Lee's page about how Motley Crue was formed right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.244.183.235 (talk) 02:14, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment is useless because it does not add any information. You don't even show the differences in the stories. Besides, the right word is consistency.

Birth Dates not matched[edit]

I am not sure if anyone else has noticed but the birth dates entered on two separate locations do not match. It is listed that Mick was born in May of '51 in the first line but underneath the photo in the details section someone has entered Apr of '51. Might want to check facts and ensure everything is proofed before posting on a popular and renowned site! Whiskeylee (talk) 03:03, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mick mars was born in 1951 not 1950[edit]

Someone keeps changing the birth dates of Mick Mars. He was originally born on May 4 1951 but someone keeps putting April 29 1950. This page has to be protected — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.159.92.196 (talk) 18:10, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are one of the ones who kept changing the text back April 29 1950, as seen here and here with my reverts of you. Considering that the two sources in the first line of the article lead (intro) give different birth dates, I'm not sure when he was born. But I know that people can't be "originally born" somewhere. If we are going to go by 1951 for his birth date like the second source, instead of the 1955 date like the first source, then we should remove the first source. As alternative, we can include that his birth date is reported differently in sources (and WP:Reliable sources to show that). Flyer22 (talk) 18:33, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Allmusic.com here does say "April 4, 1955 in Terre Haute, IN". If we have reliable sources saying 1950, 1951 and 1955, we have to either confirm a date or do a "sources differ" like at Mariah Carey. Otherwise we can't include a birth date since that would be just one editor's POV.--Tenebrae (talk) 22:04, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

According to my friend who knows Mick's son Les, Les said it is May 4, 1951 (Age 65 at the time of this posting.) Ala Bahma (talk) 19:04, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ala Bahma: We can't say, "so-and-so told me this so it's true." We don't know who anyone is on Wikipedia and whether what they say is true or not. That's why we have to use credible, published, reliable sources. --159.123.253.101 (talk) 16:13, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And not in 1955, an alternate birth year currently shown. Mars married Sharon E Copas in Las Vegas on January 3, 1971 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VVZC-LR9). If born in 1955, he would have been 15 years old at the time of that marriage. —Danorton (talk) 17:53, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Since the article doesn't mention him marrying a Sharon E. Copas, how do we know it's the same Robert Deal? It's not a terribly uncommon name. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:03, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Good. You shouldn't take my word for it. I reaffirm my assertion and encourage you to review the previously cited sources and weigh their reliability and authority. —Danorton (talk) 04:22, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
One date comes from the author of an interview with Mars, the other from the well-established music reference source AllMusic.com. One of them is wrong, likely because Mars himself has been elusive about the date, but these are equally WP:RS. At some point, maybe when he's dead and his public information on the Social Security Death Index comes up, or maybe if he's ever arrested and police release such public information as his birth date, we'll be able to know. --Tenebrae (talk) 20:46, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Tenebrae, I just saw this. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 20:31, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Despite a redlink editor's uncited claim here, a Twitter post by the subject is a WP:PRIMARY source that may or may not be a truthful claim, which is why it does not trump or veto WP:SECONDARY sources. --Tenebrae (talk) 15:21, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Equipment[edit]

Hello, Cristabelo. Thanks for correcting the name (Mars) I used in the equipment section. My mistake. As for your changes to Fender and Stratocaster, I believe those words should have an initial capital letter. So I have reverted your changes accordingly. Date of birth and birth place[edit]

I cannot believe a discussion on the date of birth and birth place for Mick Mars has been going on since at least 2007. Is there any verifiable information at this point in time that confirms when and where Mick Mars was actually born? Has anybody tried to request a birth certificate for the dates and the places? Why all the secrecy for all these years anyway?

ICE77 (talk) 06:57, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

His daughter Stormy’s birth certificate lists Mick’s birthday as May 4, 1951. She says so herself Imagine offline (talk) 09:12, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First, that's a WP:PRIMARY and disallowed as a reference source. Second, there's not even a citation for it. Please see WP:BLP for the stringent policies regarding personal-life claims about living people. --Tenebrae (talk) 20:23, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Primary material is only disallowed if it requires interpretation. A statement of fact, the birthdate, does not require interpretation. Every document in the public record says 1951. The article should remove other dates.
Allmusic takes user submissions. It is not infallible. SchmuckyTheCat (talk) 22:33, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#RhythmOne allmusic is a questionable source. Since that's the only source maintaining the April 1955 date, and multiple primary and secondary sources all use the April 1951 date, I've removed the 1955 date and added sources.
