Article name should be "Liffey Bridge"[edit]

Using a nickname as the primary name of the article is not within the suitability limits for encyclopedic content, if I am not mistaken.

Actually Wiki prefers to use the common name. So the current name is probably right. (Sarah777 (talk) 13:14, 16 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Agreed. Per WP:COMMONNAME, the guideline is to "use the most common name of a person or thing". So, per Sarah, the current name is as expected. (Ask any person familiar with Dublin about the Ha'penny Bridge and this is the brigde they'll refer to. Ask the same question about "Liffey Bridge", and watch for the confused look :) Guliolopez (talk) 17:22, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They'd probably reply - "Which one?" (Sarah777 (talk) 18:31, 16 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

2004 post[edit]

I merged the material from Ha'Penny Bridge into this article, since this one is based on the spelling as found here. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the information in the text per se. Perhaps I can check it later, but this is outside my expertise. -- Decumanus 06:20, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Locks[edit]

Respectfully, I have concerns about the recent additions about the "love locks" section. The amount of weight given to the subject is disproportionate (it's own section?). And, to my read, it has problems in terms of the "10 year (recentism) test". Something that has had a few column inches of newsprint (very recently) doesn't seem balanced to the 200 year history of the bridge. Unless there are other opinions I recommend summarising significantly and merging into an existing section. Guliolopez (talk) 00:31, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On second thoughts, and with apologies for not waiting for input, I've just gone ahead and summarised and merged into the existing renovation/maintenance section. I genuinely don't see the rationale for having an entire section dedicated to this practice. If it becomes more of an issue, then maybe it might be expanded, but unless/until then it's too much. I cleaned up the section, added an article from The Irish Times and made it clearer that the practice is not encouraged by the council and that locks are removed on a regular basis. (I checked the history and that information was previously included, the attempt to summarize unfortunately failed to make it clear the practice is actively discouraged.
Was prompted to check this page when I saw cast members of MTV tv show The Valleys (TV series) in Dublin for an episode (season 3 I think), were shown adding a lock to the bridge. Didn't add that to the article because it isn't notable. -- 109.77.17.179 (talk) 01:03, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
