Mess photo[edit]

Hi Glen,

Welcome to wikipedia and all that

Can you indicate the source of the photo of officers in mess dress please? Its likely copyrighted; a good source of images is the US military which all of its contributions are public domain because of US law

Cheers,

Dunc_Harris| 16:43, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Photograph is mine taken at a mess function. Glen

Okay, would you be willing to release it under the GFDL licence, see Wikipedia:copyrights, or alternatively make it public domain or non-commercially available. to do this you need to add an image copyright tag to the image. Dunc_Harris| 16:54, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

P.S. You can sign your name on talk pages using ~~~~

PPS Pelase feel free to ask me any other questions.

PPPS Ah yes, they are here: Wikipedia:Image copyright tags Dunc_Harris| 16:55, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

- Believe I have been able to do that - Glen

Image Tag[edit]

Hi, you uploaded Image:Wedding 030.jpg, Image:Wedding 011.jpg and Image:Wedding009.jpg I notice that they currently don't have image copyright tags. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Evil MonkeyTalk 08:08, Dec 12, 2004 (UTC)

Venice photo[edit]

Hi Glen, do you still know where in Venice you made http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1c/Venice_Street_04563.JPG ? Although I know the city very well, I am currently lost. I am particularly interested in the building in the background. Cheers Jcr2 07:28, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC) --reply on your talk page

Found it with the aid of the map. It is most probably Salizzada de la Chiesa at San Simeon. The building in the background is Hotel Principe, an ancient palace. You made the photo with a tele lens? Thanks, regards. Jan Jcr2 20:54, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

the river here is the salzach, not the salz

Alberta Legislature[edit]

Hi. In the upload you claim that this picture is taken c. 1908. Is that accurate? The information is no longer included in the summary, that's why I ask. Thanks! Peregrine981 11:31, May 9, 2005 (UTC)

typo - c1980
Thanks! That helps clear things up. I'm going to move it to commons shortly. Peregrine981 08:06, May 10, 2005 (UTC)

K-T Boundary Photo[edit]

Hi Glen, I am interested in the K-T Boundary photograph posted on Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:KT_boundary_054.jpg. I have been searching for images to use in our Fossil Gallery of a new museum.I need to know the original size of the photo and if I might obtain a higher resolution copy than the one on the web? The photo will be utilized on a reader panel with appropriate credit given to the photographer. Please respond as soon as possible, I must present by Thursday of this week. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ALMS logoN.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:ALMS logoN.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Image copyright problem with Image:Guidon Fort Garry Horse.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Guidon Fort Garry Horse.JPG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 08:55, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SALH small.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SALH small.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:59, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Photo-map.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture[edit]

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Northwest_Mounted_Police_re-enactors.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA
