My name is Matt Martin and I'm a theoretical physicist working in the fields of particle physics and cosmology.

In non-technical terms I often explain the relationship between particle physics and early universe cosmology as follows: The universe is currently expanding and cooling, but at some very early time it was much much denser and hotter. Under those conditions the particles that make up the universe strike each other with such energy that we must understand the rules of subatomic physics if we are to understand the early universe. In fact, the conditions of the early universe are related to (but not the same as) the conditions created in particle collisions at an accelerator like those at Fermilab[1] near Chicago, CERN[2] in Geneva, or Brookhaven[3] on Long Island.
