Untitled[edit]

This article looks like it was written by someone reviewing it, not talkinga bout it.

I don't really see any opinions stated, so I disagree.

Hmm I think I remember writing some of this and it was when I was a wikipedia rookie. So yeah I'll fix some of the POV, review-sounding stuff. - Razorhead August 16th 2006 3:29 AM PST

"Project"[edit]

Recently, this showed up "Surprisingly on some rare copies of this album a bonus hidden track listed as "Project" on certain computer music players has appeared. It seems to be a early demo version of "Survive". A few of the lyrics are different and it has a different pace to it, but overall the same idea and basicness of "Survive"." Can anyone confirm this?

I found nothing on it, and the same IP had added stuff to other albums which seemed equally as baseless and incorrect, so I'm pretty confident that it's completely false. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Emitime (talkcontribs) 01:01, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heatseekers Chart[edit]

on billboard.com's artist chart history for rise against it says the album hit #1 on the heetseekes chart and not #3.

just thought id fix that :)

Genre[edit]

The genre of the siren song album is not hardcore punk it is Melodic hardcore then hardcore punk so please don't take it out (some songs like blood to bleed, swing life away and anywhere but here are less than hardcore, and songs like Give it all start heavy but then mellow out)

Melodic hardcore is melodic vocals with occasional screaming, Dancing for rain, The first drop, Paper wings and Tip the scales all fit the roles very well.

There's no way this album can be just hardcore with songs like swing life away, blood to bleed and many others, its definately both but a lot more melodic hardcore.

OH no! this record is not hardcore punk!! because there is one ballad(Swing life away) on this record! boy! the most songs are hardcore Melodic Horror

Cinnamon Rolls[edit]

Apparently one of the band members eats cinnamon rolls —Preceding unsigned comment added by Domie18 (talkcontribs) 08:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sales[edit]

Its wrong to say that the album was a huge commercial success with out confirming sales. Does anyone know what the final sales were. albums that don't reach the hot 100 top 10 could only sell a few thousand a week, hardly a huge commercial success. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.86.160.62 (talk) 15:32, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, now where to find album sale data. RockManQ (talk) 02:54, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Paper Wings[edit]

Paper Wings is the forth single from this album. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicholasmajestic (talkcontribs) 03:53, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was? I don't seem to recall that it was. RockManQ (talk) 02:54, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miscellaneous Section[edit]

We need to clean this one. I am going to try to move some of these into the main parts of the articles, but only the ones that have references. --66.253.145.149 (talk) 17:55, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rate Attribute Review Comment
1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct.

From: "The recording sessions for the album were split between two studios in British Columbia, with producer Garth Richardson"

To: "The recording sessions for the album with producer Garth Richardson were split between two studios in British Columbia"

I do not think the comma is necessary: ""Give It All" and "Swing Life Away" in particular, are credited with helping Rise Against achieve mainstream appeal."

I would split this sentence: "At the time, Rise Against was under contract with the independent record label Fat Wreck Chords, and the general consensus among Fat Wreck Chords musicians was that major record labels sacrifice musical integrity in exchange for commercial profit."

1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.

It does, but would Template:Album reviews be an appropriate addition?

2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
2c. it contains no original research.
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism.

Earwig tool comes up w/ some near 25%, but just quotes from reviews and song/album titles.

3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).

Let's make sure we get the release dates for the music videos and singles in there

Talk about how Swing Life Away was a re-release

4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. Rationales are valid and existent.
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. Would be nice to have a photo from the tour, could you try to find one? If not, that's fine.
7. Overall assessment.

@Kees08: Hi there! Thank you taking up this review. I took care of the comments about 1a and 1b. Just wanted to respond to a few other comments.

  • The reason this article didn't include a review table was purely an aesthetic choice. At the time I felt reception sections look cleaner with tables, but I'm fine with including one. Besides, it shows how this album received some radically different scores upon release. A 2.9/10 followed by a 9.3/10. You don't see that too often.
I do not particularly care, I review a fair amount of album articles and I think this was the first without one, so I thought I would bring it up. Leave it out if you want. Kees08 (Talk)
  • The release dates for the singles are at the bottom of the infobox. As for the music videos, I can't find exact release dates, just release years.
Sorry, I had a cat on my chest and I could not see the screen very well (blame Harley). So we are good for the songs. The interview says they did the Swing Life Away music video 13 or so months after the album was released, which is not typical. I was just hoping something along those lines could be mentioned, since it was peculiar and helps emphasize the points you are already making. Kees08 (Talk)
Mentioned how the video was released over a year after the parent album was released.
  • I'm not sure if it's necessarily important to mention how "Swing Lie Away" is a re-release. I do mention that it's a re-release in the "Swing Life Away" article, but this article is only about the album. The reason I include how "Give It All" and "Swing Life Away" helped the band achieve mainstream success was because those two songs came from this album. For example, you would mention that the popular "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came from Nevermind in the Nevermind article, but specifics about the production and history of the song should appear in the song article.
I will leave it up to you. I thought it was interesting because of how different the song sounds compared to the rest of the album, and then when I read it was released before it made more sense to me. Thought other readers might have a 'oh, that makes sense' moment like I did. Kees08 (Talk)
I think I'd like to keep it the way it is. There's always an individual article for "Swing Life Away" if the reader wants to learn more of the specifics of that song. Also as a side note, "Give It All" is also a re-release.
  • The only picture I could find from the tour is this picture from 2005. The problem is that it only shows McIlrath and not the entire band. Also it's a rather pixelated picture, but if you think it's important enough to include, I have no qualms about it. Famous Hobo (talk) 10:14, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's too bad; yeah leave it out. Kees08 (Talk)

@Kees08: Alright I think your concerns have been addressed. Anything else you want to take a look at? Famous Hobo (talk) 04:41, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
