I may be wrong but wasn't June 28 also a national day for the Serbs, where they 'celebrate' their defeat? My teacher was rambling and I wasn't paying close attention but is there any substance to what I think I heard? Bug 15:00, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Right up on this page, it mentions Vidovdan.Tommstein 05:22, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you :) I feel slightly silly, though maybe that should be clarified as some people (eg me!) may not hear that name. Should "the/a Serbian national day" be added to clarify things? Bug 20:21, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A very important notice on Vidovdan. It is not thebattle between "Christian Europe" and the Ottomans, but battle between Serbian army led by prince Lazar Hrebeljanovic, aided by some Christian armies, such as Croat, Bosnian, Bulgarian and Magyar (Hungarian) armies against the Turkish army.

It is a absolutely important to say, in this very form, otherwise it is an malicious changing of Serbian history. Even offensive.

Shouldn't mel brooks be added to this? I'm pretty sure he was born June 28, 1926. - Anonymous

((1947)) - ((Gina Coles)), English pub landlady Umm... There is no article for this person, and I am pretty sure someone put this up themselves for personal reasons and not for the advancement of the page. - Anonymous

The year for the Central American Union, 1895, looks wrong. It should be 1823, shouldn't it? Can anyone verify that? --Bill.albing 14:04, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The date of the battle of Kosovo[edit]

Did the battle of Kosovo (1389) take place on June 28th, as it is sometimes stated (even in some versions of this article)?

If what is stated in the article of Battle of Kosovo, it did not. It took place on June 15th (according to Julian calendar). Among Serbs, that day of the year is known as Vidovdan, i.e. Saint Vitus' day. Among most Orthodox Christians, the old Julian calendar is still used in religious contexts, and in the early 20th century it was also the official civil calendar in some Eastern European countries (for example in Russia, and also in Serbia). Nowadays (since 1900) June 15th in Julian calendar falls on the same day as June 28th in Gregorian calendar, and this fact seems to have some all too well-known consequences in the 20th century, especially in 1914. The difference between Julian and Gregorian calendar actually is now 13 days. This, however, has not always been the case, and will not always be; it only holds from 1900 to 2100. That difference increases one day every century, except when the century year is divisible by 400 (as it was in 1600 and in 2000). At the time of the battle of Kosovo, the Gregorian calender did not even exist, as it was introcuded by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. At that time, the difference between Julian and Gregorian calendar was not 13 but only 10 days; since then, it has increased by one day in 1700, 1800 and 1900. Thus, even if the Gregorian calender were extended backwards, "proleptically", to centuries before 1582, the battle of Kosovo did not take place on June 28th, even according to such a proleptic Gregorian Calendar, but, according to it, on June 23th. (According to such a proleptic calendar, it is to be supposed that the years 1400 and 1500 were not leap years, althought they so were in Julian calendar, and thus in 1389 the difference between Julian and proleptic Gregorian calendar was only 8 days). Thus the statement that it took place on June 28th is absolutely false. Neither according to Julian, nor according to proleptic Gregorian calendar, did it happen on that date. Except, of course, if what is stated on the page Battle of Kosovo, is false. -FKLS (talk) 18:53, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mercedes-Benz merger misinformation (1926)[edit]

According to the article for June 28th, "Mercedes-Benz is formed by Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz merging their two companies," but upon reading more about the company in the "Mercedes-Benz" article, Daimler died in 1900. The headline is just a little misleading. It should say "Mercedes-Benz is formed by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie merging their two companies," or some variation of that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DCharlesT1863 (talkcontribs) 12:01, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
