Filipino Americans[edit]
- Hi! Really great work on the Filipino Americans article. I was wondering if you also know about the plight of some Filipinos who hide in America. I personally know someone who went "TNT" in the States but is now a legal citizen when that person married an American. Also, information about how Filipinos in the Philippines view America as the "land of milk and honey" might also be appropriate. :) seav 21:33, May 25, 2004 (UTC)
Airports[edit]
- A category link and the text "An airport of the State of Hawai'i." doesn't even qualify as stub status. I deleted a couple, then noticed you made a bunch of them. I'll leave the rest to give you a chance to improve them (though someone else may delete them). You could start by at least mentioning where the airport is, and maybe wikilinking airport and Hawaii. Education in Hawaii[edit]
- Hi there! I was wondering if you could divide up the articles within this category so they can be grouped with the proper subdivisions in Category:United States education—splitting the articles into Category:Public education in Hawaii and Category:Universities and colleges in Hawaii would allow them to be linked to Category:Public education in the United States and Category:Universities and colleges in the U.S.; the general Hawaii education category could then be kept as a parent for the subcategories. There are also Category:Law schools in the U.S. and Category:Catholic universities and colleges in the U.S. to cross-link the proper articles too, and there should really be one for med schools in the U.S., but I haven't started it yet. Democratic Convention Poll[edit]
- Hello, I was wondering where you got the info on the poll about Bill and Hillary being the most popular democrats in the US.ChrisDJackson
- I got it off a graphic they featured on the PBS coverage with Jim Lehrer. Bill Clinton was voted most popular, followed by John Kerry then Hillary Clinton. My Sincere Apologies[edit]
- Aloha Gerald, I want to sincerely apologize for my being upset with my attempts at contributing and misunderstanding how and what to do. I did not want to cause any problems or create any anger amongst the Wikipedia community. It seems I overreacted to having my efforts edited. But I can see why and how. I do really think that you, along with everyone else that has contributed to the Hawaii Article has done a great job. I am sorry for any trouble I may have caused you. Very sorry for making it a racial issue. What do you think of the "Scenic Backdrop" section I have added? Is that something we should have on the Hawaii Article? I noticed New Zealand had their scenic backdrop as part of the New Zealand frontpage-touting the films made there like "Lord of the Rings". I am still learning how to contribute and have made a few mistakes in doing so. --Ilikea

- After reading the Alan Keyes article, I'm confused about whether the Illinois Republican Party is still considering him to run against Obama. Anyway, regarding the image you uploaded Image:Judybaartopinka.jpg, only works of the federal government are public domain; I believe Illinois retains its copyright. Complete revision of sovereignty page[edit]
- Gerald, I have a vague memory of a sovereignty page that USED to be there that seemed fairly balanced to me. It seems to have been replaced by a pro-independence diatribe, written by you. I do wish that you'd put back the original, as I really DON'T want to have to spend hours teasing apart misleading generalities. You've completely erased any mention of the various Hawaiian groups and given the impression that all Hawaiians are united in an "independence now" stance. This is simply NOT true. All the surveys show that only a tiny percentage of ethnic Hawaiians want anything like independence; restitution, reservation status -- Ka Lahui solutions -- are much more popular. Perhaps even more popular than that is "I can't bother with politics, I'm working" and "wait and see". Your summary of the objections to independence is also seriously misleading -- setting up straw men that you can knock down easily. I have a feeling that a number of people put a fair bit of work into the old page, and it's sad that you feel you have to wipe it out. --Zora 10:40, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- I resent the accusation that I've completely destroyed an entire article. I don't believe I have completely erased a previous page. I started the Hawaiian sovereignty movement page from scratch (the edit history whould prove that) and don't remember there being any article covering the Hawaiian sovereignty movement previous to the one I wrote. - You're right and I APOLOGIZE. I just found Native Hawaiians on my watchlist again and realized that that was the article I was vaguely remembering. I will be working on the sovereignty article, but mainly to fill it out with names of various groups and summaries of the various positions. - Gerald, I stayed up till 4 AM to redo the sovereignty page. The page you had written was curiously abstract -- it had OHA, but no Ka Lahui, no Nation of Hawaii, etc. etc. I have brought it down to earth. Much of what I wrote was based on having lived through the events reported. I googled to check what I could, but there may be some mistakes. I'd have to go to the newspaper morgue to check more of it. I was involved in Green Party politics for a number of years, have met Haunani and Lilikala, etc., so I have a little more than a just "reading the newspaper" acquaintance with events. I moved the Wilcox and Home Rule party material you wrote to separate pages, but haven't edited it yet. I rather disagree with your view of Wilcox. I think he was self-serving sleaze. But I need to look at the primary sources; I might change my mind. You may be wondering what my own position is. It's hard to explain. I'm very much an anti-nationalist and I particularily deplore ethnic nationalism. Not only am I against a Hawaiian nation, I'm against a U.S. nation, an Israeli nation, a Palestinian nation, etc. I'd actually want something like the Ka Lahui proposal, but without the land base. I hope that none of that bled into the article, but if you see it, I suppose it's fair enough to root it out. I took out your POV, you can take out mine. --Zora 14:17, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)
