Kingdom Hearts[edit]

I deleted a sentence saying that it is rumored that Darkwing will appear in a Kingdom Hearts game. Rumors don't belong here, especially unfounded rumors with no source. 141.157.116.73 (talk) 03:42, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Catchphrase: other languages[edit]

I know that "let's get dangerous" is "laten we lekker link gaan doen" in the Dutch dub. It kind of rolls of the tongue and makes me wonder what DW's catchphrase is in other languages. Shinobu 21:13, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In German it's "Zwo, eins, Risiko!" what means "Two, one, risk!".

I think it is "Nu blir vi farliga" in Swedish, curiously in plural (Now, we're getting dangerous))...

In Danish it's "Lad os så vove fjerene!" Directly translated it means something akin to "Let's risk our feathers". It's a play on the Danish saying "at vove pelsen" (directly "to risk one's fur" = to risk one's skin). Probably picked since "let's get dangerous" translates very poorly into Danish.

In Russian it's "Ну-ка, от винта!". AFAIK, it would be something like "OK, get off the propeller!" (word-by-word translation) or "Off we go!" (closest analogue) in english. That's what the pilots of an old airplanes are saying, when they are ready to take-off. The thing is, propeller of an old airplane needs to be pushed by hand to start spinning. When pilot is absolutely sure, that engines are working / propeller is spinning, he screams "От винта!" to mechanics. They now should step away from the airplane. The same (Russian) dub was airing in Ukraine. (Please, excuse my poor english. This language is not my native.) 82.207.28.136 00:03, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It says the French translation "Ca va craindre un mask" means, "It's action time, guys." But shouldn't it be something like "They will fear a mask?"

Tohobbes (talk) 19:08, 5 March 2008 (UTC) The Japanese translation written is "危険が俺を呼んでいるぜ!" -- which this article has translated literally as "Danger causes me!" -- I think this would be better translated as "Danger Beckons Me!" or "Danger is Calling!" If no one minds, I'm going to go ahead and change that.[reply]

In the Spanish version (at least as shown in South America), Darkwing says "Hay que entrar en acción", which would mean something like (not literally) "It's time to jump into action"190.134.152.203 (talk) 15:22, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The debate on word-for-word copying in the Professor Waddlemeyer article (and possibly others).[edit]

Just to clarify, I'm the one everyone is talking about when they mention word-for-word copying of stuff from Multiversal Omnipedia-Atlas. I did this because I wrote those articles on the MOA to begin with, and therefore believe I have a right to do with what I've written as I see fit, and if that involves copying-and-pasting it verbatim somewhere else, that's my business. (And, incidentally, I posted this here rather than under the discussions of the article(s) in question because I figured my message would get more attention here than there.) -- Kooshmeister

This makes sense. But I added references/source citations for those articles, not knowing if the same person had written it in both places or if it had been copied over. The licensing for that site would seem to allow copying as I read it, however, though I don't know if it would strictly allow using the text verbatim on a GFDL-licensed site such as Wikipedia. In fact, if I recall correctly, the licensing for all content put on that site isn't very clear either, last time I checked. Bloodshedder 03:54, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

S.H.U.S.H.[edit]

(S.H.U.S.H. is a parody of the Marvel comics S.H.I.E.L.D., a top-secret government organization)

I think S.H.U.S.H. is more a parody of C.O.N.T.R.O.L. from "Get Smart." I think a lot of the spy, comically hush-hush nature of the agency is more in tune with Get Smart than is does with Nick Fury's organization.

I think S.H.U.S.H. is pretty much a parody of every acronymmed super spy agency in popular culture, including CONTROL, U.N.C.L.E. and so on. 24.178.126.182 03:54, 23 June 2006 (UTC) (sorry, thought I was signed in when I wrote this.) McGehee 03:56, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I'm a newbie. This wiki thing is quite good though. --Longboy69 09:06, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

JIP - when someone puts a seemingly idiotic NPOV (or similar) tag, please check their contribs. Longboy69 is today's incarnation of a recurring vandal who's been doing this for several days - see WP:VIP#Manchester_.2F_obesity_.2F_Girls_Aloud_vandal. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 09:21, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I did check his contribs, but did not find any particular instances of vandalism. The contributions did look odd, though, usually someone doesn't put NPOV tags on articles on his first day. JIP | Talk 09:24, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's his modus operandi. He leaves NPOV tags (occasionally others, but that's his favourite, as it gets the biggest response from the unwitting). Now he leaves nonspecific talk page comments like "this article is totally biased". If you see him again, he's likely to create the hoax article Jocker City too. I'm inclined to believe that anyone who shows up and immediately knows how to issue NPOV tags, vprotects, etc. (without asking or being told how) is at best a mischievous reincarnation, at worst a troll. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 09:32, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the first Negaduck link[edit]

I removed the link to Negaduck 1 because it links to the character that is actually Negaduck 2. Please don't restore it unless a page for the other Negaduck is created.67.68.153.169 21:08, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Banned Episodes[edit]

According to the IMDB Hot Spells was not the only episode banned from TV. It says that a number of episodes were, and that one of them was Aduckyphobia, simply because it parodied Spider Man. Is there any truth to this?205.251.53.132 14:34, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"could come in handy some day"\"may come in handy some day"[edit]

In The Secret Origin of Darkwing Duck, I'm almost positive they said may come in handy some day as opposed to should come in handy some day. I realize it's only one word, but it is quoted. --Jake Wilhite 21:29, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Powers[edit]

Other "Superheroes" on Wikipedia have their notable powers listed, so why not DW? Okay, this is only semi-serious on my part, but come on, as a cartoon character he was two notable powers that makes him far superior to anyone in real life:

1) Immortality

2) Ability to pull large darkwing gadgets from his back-pocket

You can't say he doesn't have these powers, or that they don't count as superpowers. All you can say is that maybe it doesn't have any place in this article. 83.108.101.119

In his world that is not notable powers. That is the same abilities that Launchpad, Gosalyn and even Honker has. You can crush every single person in their universe with a 16 tons weight, and they would all be alright, and Hammerspace is freely available to anyone animated. As far as notable powers go, Darkwing is, relativly speaking, no more powerful than Batman. No stronger than than the average duck/man, no more powers than the average guy on the street, but with access to hightech equipment. I define superpowers as being powers that are actually super, as opposed to ordinary powers. Powers of flight compared to the power of breathing--Lordz 22:42, 10 November 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I recall one episode mentioning that his one superpower is his ability to make mysterious entrances, describing this as an actual superpower. Anyone know of this? 85.24.6.29 (talk) 22:15, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing[edit]

There is very little information on this article about the actual show and too much about Darkwing himself. I think the "origins", "catchphrases" and most of the "premise" sections could be moved to the actual Drake Mallard page and more information regarding the TV show should be added. (Animedude 07:37, 22 September 2006 (UTC))[reply]

  • I was thinking about that too. I already moved a couple of days ago a paragraph about Darkwing from the "premise" section to the Drake Mallard page that I created, but I also think the "origins" and "catchphrases" are more about Darkwing than the actual show. I wanted to hear more opinions about this before moving the sections. Nat91 03:30, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

intro -- different versions[edit]

There are five different versions of the Darkwing Duck introduction. The first one was aired on the Disney Channel when Darkwing Duck first premiered and featured alternate animation and a different version of the familiar theme song.

Is this the one at the beginning of the uncut version of "Darkly Dawns the Duck", with the song playing as Darkwing, on the Ratcatcher, chases down and captures a gang of criminals?'

The second version was used in syndication, and is actually the currently one they use today. The third is the version used on The Disney Afternoon, and is the same as the second version only cut for time. The fourth and fifth introductions were used on the ABC Saturday Morning airings, and contained mostly scenes from those episodes, starting with Darkwing tiptoeing up the Audobon Bay Bridge.

I actually recall that the uncut syndication version (referred to as "the second version" in the text quoted above) was at first used for the 1991 ABC season, but several episodes along, the ABC run switched to its own version (what would be considered the "fourth" version in the text quoted above, the 1992 ABC season version considered the "fifth").

Rywn 06:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Rwyn. No, the original version I refer to is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2UFFzPsSsg ... Here is the current version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czCqMWRFVg4&mode=related&search= The original version was aired when That Sinking Feeling aired, which was the first episode to air if I recall correctly. The pilot may have aired prior, but I doubt it. Mostly because That Sinking Feeling was the first episode recorded and completed, and the pilot was somewhere in the 60s. Darkwing had a run on the Disney Channel prior to it running on syndicated tv as well. That's where it premiered.

The scene at the beginning of Darkly Dawns the Duck is actually from the movie version, not the two part version of Darkly Dawns the Duck.

The current version of this text might need to be updated, too. There is apprently 6 versions now. Apparently there's a variation on the first version with the alternate music which has Negaduck (the split-from-Darkwing version) in it.

Also, I believe that ABC always used their own cut of the intro. I vividly recall that ABC had a prime time preview of all the new shows coming on Saturdays, and they showed half of That Sinking Feeling in it, and what struck me most about it at the time was that the intro was different than what I had taped prior with Darkwing, most notably the intro being Darkwing tiptoeing up the bridge.

Darkwing Duck on Toon Disney[edit]

This entry and the Toon Disney entry contradicts itself as far as whether Darkwing Duck is being aired on Toon Disney. cmulgrew 18:19, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

VHS releases[edit]

I found a list of Darkwing Duck VHS titles that came out in each of the following years. There are four in total. Take a look! If you have any question, ask above the titles.

Darkly Dawns the Duck (September 20, 1991)

Justice Ducks Unite! (February 28, 1992)

Comic Book Capers (March 26, 1993)

Birth of Negaduck (March 26, 1993)

Skymac: Just as a note, these tapes contained a bridging animation with Darkwing and the wrecking ball - seen in the middle of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2UFFzPsSsg - in between the episodes. They also contained the Darkwing Duck rap at the end, seen here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc80jQrFES4. The version of Darkly Dawns the Duck on these tapes includes the scene at the beginning where Darkwing catches the robbers while his theme song plays in the background: Aka the movie version.

U've seem to make your to point. Which VHS was music vid. seen at end of? Also, does any1 own "Darkly Dawns the Duck"? Skymac207 15:43, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Danks! Who owns "Darkly Dawns the Duck"? If somebody owns it, tell me, if previews on here R right 'nor not:

Part 1:

1. 1984 FBI warnings

2. Full version of 1986 WDHV logo w/voiceover sayin' "Coming Soon From Walt Disney Home Video!"

Vulgarity?[edit]

I heard a rumor that NegaDuck calls Darkwing "Darkwing Dick" in an episode. Is there any truth to it? Short of watching every episode, I've been doing research on this. Any truth to the rumor? Vaughnstull (talk) 00:47, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dip, dweeb, dork, and probably some others, but I've never heard of that (I have seen all the episodes). Something tells me it wouldn't fly in a Disney cartoon anyway. Bloodshedder (talk) 01:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Catchphrase[edit]

The article say it was based off Batman. It's not, it's based off The Green Lantern, specifically:

" In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight Let those who worship evil's might, Beware my power...Green Lantern's light" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmccoy0017 (talkcontribs) 22:05, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sweden[edit]

The article states:

"In Poland and Sweden the series was considered too brutal, and after a few episodes were aired (despite gaining many fans), the show was taken off."

This is wrong, in sweden it ran for quite some time, not just a few episodes. I used to watch it every week when I was a kid.

References to Death[edit]

I am not sure where on the page to put this, but I think there should be some mention of the show's references to death, which was and still is unusual for most American animated shows. One example would be in the episode "Water Way to Go" J. Gander Hooter mentions agents being killed and their corpes being found. I think this is rather significant since other shows use such terms as "were lost", "destroy" or "finish him/her". I think even in one of Darkwing's narattives he talks about hunting down a murderer. I would like to hear other's thoughts before I work on an entry for this. Vismaior (talk) 07:42, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Death has been mentioned numerous times throughout the show. In Duck Blind it was stated that Darkwing has sent Megavolt to the electric chair twice, indicating he has been charged for murder twice. And Bushroot killed his colleges Dr. Gary and Larson, and Gosalyn's grandfather was killed by an 'unfortunate accident' stated by Taurus Bulba, and a version of Gosalyn also died in the episode "Origin of Darkwing Duck," and I'm pretty sure Liquidator (Bud Flood) also claimed Darkwing killed him that resulted his transformation, Death (Grim Reaper) was seen in Dead Duck, and Bushroot 'died' in Twin Beaks, It was claim in at least two episodes that Negaduck is a mass murdere, and I believe Darkwarrior Duck (In Time and Punishment) believed Goslyan was killed (Or missing) that resulted him to this dark version. There are a few more examples of death but I think the series has a bit 'over-done' it [[User: Burning Avenger}} 09.40, 16 May 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Burning Avenger (talkcontribs) 13:49, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Addressing each individual "reference" - Megavolt's sentence may have been true, or it may have been an electricity-based joke (though, based on his violence towards Darkwing and others, I'm inclined to say it's true. The Gary and Larson thing is a mystery; while they appeared to be dead, it was never stated outright, and they made cameos in "Going Nowhere Fast," a much later episode. Taurus Bulba did killed Gosalyn's grandfather, and was intending to kill Gosalyn as well. (Eek...now THAT'S dark.) "The Secret Origins of Darkwing" was extremely non-canon, acting instead as a superhero parody, so no one actually died. Liquidator never specifically said that Darkwing killed him, but yes, he did appear to imply it. "Dead Duck" was all a dream, apparently, but Bushroot's "death" was one of the scarier moments on the show - corpse and all. (Also, check out the second time they find a "Bushroot corpse" - it has duck feet instead of root feet.) I've never heard it said that Negaduck is a mass murder, though it wouldn't surprise me (could you name the episodes it was claimed?), and on "Time and Punishment" Darkwing believed Gosalyn ran away because he wouldn't let her help him fight crime. Hope that clears some of this up! 70.249.163.132 (talk) 23:10, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Megavolt's sentence was probably both a joke brought by Darkwing or he was being his egoistical self as usual. Gary and Larson, I believe there were look-alikes (Rob Serling did stated he saw a look-alike version of him that inspired him the episode 'Mirror-Image' in twlight zone), one of them also appeared in 'Switching Channels'. The Secret Origins of Darkwing, I actually forgot it was non-cannon, however the story itself is just there to give us a brief idea who or what Darkwing was, the writers did this at a time both humorously or they had many ideas who the duck really is behind the mask. Bushroot's (Corpse)feet were animation errors, mistakes/flaws overlooked by the animators themselves (They did this many times like for examples when they colored Darkwing after Negaduck when the real Negaduck knocks him over towards the Friendly Four, when Darkwing comes through the Negaverse, his clothes were colored like Negaduck and when Negaduck was saying through 'I don't know what you're trying to pull here Darkwing, but..." when his teeth were clenched and his mouth wasn't moving in My Valentine Ghoul and ect). The Mass Murder thing, well no doubt he's a murderer (Being a cold-blooded psychopath and wields heavy artielly for mass destruction, plus have you ever seen his face when he revves his chainsaw at the F5 with that look on his face and when Gosyaln hugs him when she was doused with that love potion) but I believe people, the fans, even the writers and show itself is implied he is a (Probably not mass) murderer (Especially the way he thinks, talks, act and his unpredictable motives). As for Time and Punishment, I'm going back to rewatch the episode to see whenever Darkwarrior thinks she died or was missing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Burning Avenger (talkcontribs) 17:14, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opening up a can of worms here...[edit]

You cannot, by Wikipedia rules, write things such as "Bushroot was intended to be a parody of Poison Ivy," or "Quackerjack was intended to be a parody of the Joker." It may seem incredibly obvious, but you can't state the intentions of the creators of the show without a source (such as an interview with Tad Stones).

Thanks.

The character info section is too long and should be moved to a separate article[edit]

The "Characters" section has become excessively long and has crowded the article. The content of this section should be moved to the separate List of Darkwing Duck characters article (which is now a redirect page). The character lists for DuckTales and TaleSpin have their own separate articles (List of DuckTales characters and List of TaleSpin characters respectively), since these character lists would be too long to fit well within the main articles of those two series. Therefore, the Darkwing Duck character list should get its own independent article as well. --Davoniac (talk) 23:11, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Since there were no objections, I went ahead and moved the "Characters" information to its own article. --Davoniac (talk) 01:08, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
