The majority of the initial text was moved from LeonardG's entries about the Parkfield earthquake in the actual Parkfield, California article. However, I'm not that happy with the info here, as there is a lot of interpretation and analysis. Being an encyclopedia, we need to just stick with the straight facts. Some parts of this text is incorrect as well. (e.g. The Fort Tejon earthquake was centered at Parkfield, not Coalinga). These will need to be corrected. I also believe the amount of slip in this event is wrong. Will verify this in the next few days. Anyway, questions or comments, let's discuss it here.

Naming[edit]

I don't believe 'Parkfield-San Bernardino earthquake' is the right name, because the article is generally about the recurring M6.0 earthquakes in Parkfield itself, and 'Parkfield-San Bernardino' refers to the large section of the San Andreas fault that was ruptured in the Fort Tejon earthquake, and that has its own article. A google search for Parkfield-San Bernardino just brings up references to this article. RapidR (talk) 17:42, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite, with serious "refimprove"[edit]

In case anyone is interested: I am considering rewriting much of this article. It currently starts with: "Parkfield earthquake is a name given to various large earthquakes that occurred in the vicinity of the town of Parkfield, California, United States." Which is incorrect, as, in terms of notability, the "Parkfield earthquake" is the one of 2004. I intend to explain that, and "the prediction".
