Bush stone-curlews seem very common in my area (Whitsundays, QLD). I counted five together the other night outside a shop at the Abel point Marina, and I've seen them all around Airlie Beach. They have a very unsettling, mournful cry, and are quite curious. They must be able to cope with cats and dogs, living this close to town.-Tom Lusk.
