I have tried to fix some of the wording and add an intelligible explanation. However this is a very dangerous game as I have no direct personal knowledge of this chip or when and how to disable it. Dpbsmith 02:16, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC) P. S. I also moved it to IO-APIC, because that seems to be the way Intel and others refer to it. P.S. Can anyone tell whether this is a current issue? From the fact that Microsoft's note about it is dated 2001 I take it this is a feature of current SMP boards and not just limited to antique ISA-BUS systems, right? Dpbsmith 12:30, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Uh? I thought the APIC problem was a hardware one, not a software one... (Anonymous)

untitled[edit]

I have a IO APIC setting on my BIOS, that I can put to Enabled or Disabled.

This is likely to switch between APIC (enabled) and PIC (disabled)

I find "and is found in most x86 SMP motherboards." in the first paragraph, ambiguous. It implies that it is exclusive to x86 SMP motherboards, but such exclusivity is not otherwise declared. Can someone clarify on this point? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.223.42.130 (talk) 18:26, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I understand it all SMP and ACPI compliant systems have APICs. I don't have a real source for that, though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.123.107.227 (talk) 03:36, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
