Division

Why are the Capitals in the southeast division? Washington, D.C. isn't in the southeast, shouldn't they be in the atlantic division or something?--Stang281 05:33, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I guess you have a point. I was watching the game against the Thrashers earlier tonight and heard the announcer say that this was a great southeast division rivalry and I rewinded it and recorded that onto the DVR because I thought he made a mistake. I just think they should be in a different division, maybe the division that the Minnesota Wild are in. Well, this isn't a hockey forum, per se, and discussing the issue at length should go to one. That being said, since the NHL groups its divisions geographically, the odds of Washington and Minnesota ever being in the same division are extremely remote. Ravenswing 17:19, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Radio

Why is the 820 frequency of WTOP listed as the station? The Caps aired on WTNT/570 last season and there's been no official announcement yet about the radio for the upcoming season. -EvWill 00:23, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Jonas Johansson only played one game with the Capitals this season, does he really warrent being mentioned? So many players played in the minors and had stints with the big club this year it's tricky to pin down players to mention in this category. Thoughts? Volsus 04:50, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Kolzig

I thought Kolzig is a German national that just happened to be born in South Africa. Ie: If my American mother gave birth to me in Switzerland, I would still be American (although I could probably apply for dual citizenship). He plays for the German national team. Ivan Majesky

Ivan Majesky is a Slovak player. He was born in Slovakia, which was a part of Czechoslovakia in that time. He plays for Slovak national team, so it is amazing if there is the Czech national flag beside him. This is exactly the same like Dainius Zubrus, who was born in Lithuania, which was a part of the U.S.S.R. in that time and beside him is the Lithuanian flag and the place of his birth is Lithunia.--Janothird 04:38, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

If you look at *most* of the rosters, we are using the countries that existed at birth. Zubrus needs to be changed to USSR. He was just an oversight. Yes Majesky should have a slovak flag, but he was born a long time ago in a land called Czechoslovakia. ccwaters 11:57, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Ovechkin has been wearing an 'A' since Zubrus was traded. Actually, Brashear and Bradley has also worn an 'A' (since Zubrus' departure). I'm not sure if there's 2 Alternates (Sutherby and Ovechkin) or 4 Alternates (Bradley, Brashear, Sutherby and Ovechkin). GoodDay 22:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

New Colors/Uniforms

With the NHL going to a different uniform style, the Caps are indicating they are making dramatic changes in their uniforms with their new "Change is Coming" campaign. Captains

Yes, I know the captaincy was 'vacant' for only 8-days (Dec 28, 2009 to Jan 5, 2010). But, it was vacant at the turn of the 'year'. Therefore, no captain, 2009-10. GoodDay (talk) 12:29, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

• Yeah, but come on; that's a trivial distinction. There have to be any number of times where there's been a vacancy in a captaincy over a short stretch, and possibly similar times when there was a vacancy stretching over the new year. I tend to think it's too trivial, but if we use the dates, I guess it IS accurate. I'll try to pull out the media guide sometime today to see if there were any other "interregnum" periods of this sort over the years (not counting the long one already noted). If so, I think that would lend some credence to the idea of not including super-short gaps. I view it as sort of like listing teams' coaches. Lists of coaches don't include interim coaches (for example, in the Caps coaches' box it doesn't say Boudreau was "interim coach" for a month) or vacancies (technically the Redskins have gone two days with "No coach," for example). Long way of saying that I tend to think that any reasonable reader would understand that there are often short gaps when there is a change of captain (or coach) such that this sort of minuscule gap is too unimportant to need to be listed. 1995hoo (talk) 13:56, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Correct, we don't use 'interim' if the person assume a role permanently. This goes for captains too. For example: from Oct-Dec of 1992, the Oilers captain was Kevin Lowe, but he sat out the first half-of the season, due to contract dispute. As a result, Craig MacTavish was interim captain during that time. MacTavish became permanent captain upon Lowe's being traded to the Rangers. Another example: Mike Keane was 'interim' captain for the rest of the 1994-95 season (after Muller's trade to the Islanders), we don't mention it as he was made permanent captain at the start of the 1995-96 season (via players confirmation). • We don't need no captain for this, it was a matter of 8 days, had there be no captain for the season it would be different. I just pulled out this year's media guide DVD, as I suggested above, but the information there is not any more detailed than what is already on this page. It doesn't list "No captain" for the prior period, for what it's worth (and of course this year's scenario isn't listed, as the media guide was prepared prior to all this). I'm sure somebody could find precise captaincy dates, but it won't be me, as I don't care that much about the issue. I think "reasonableness" ought to guide these things and, as I said above, I think a "reasonable" reader would not expect to find a "No captain" entry for a period of eight days after the prior captain was traded. How many other teams' articles include "No captain" entries for one-week periods? (That's a genuine question. I don't know the answer and I don't really have the time nor the inclination to try to determine the answer myself, as I'm not sure how I'd even go about trying to find the information. Could the "Records" section be split off

I'm going to suggest that the Records section be split off into its own article. Other NHL teams don't seem list much more than scoring leaders, which we already have in the Players section. Jersey

The picture you have for their alternative Jersey is non-existent, that is just one they are using for the winter classic, which to the best of my knowledge, will not become thrown into their regular season selection 69.171.176.95 (talk) 20:55, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

The Caps are also doing a "Turn Back the Clock Night" on February 1. I think it's generally anticipated that they'll wear these uniforms again for that event, especially as they've announced that they're doing a Dino Ciccarelli recognition that night in honor of his induction into the Hall of Fame. Dino played for the Caps when they wore the original-style sweaters, so it would be illogical for them to use the late '90s/early '00s uniforms for that occasion. Yeah, it might be a stretch to call it an "alternate" uniform when it's being used for just two games, but I suppose it's not technically incorrect.1995hoo (talk) 14:01, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Dave Fay and Ron Weber

Weber and Fay are in fact Hockey Hall of Famers. The Hockey Hall of Fame website, under "Honored Members" has a section for broadcasters and writers. There is a difference between being honoured by the hall which is what they are, and being elected to the hall. People who win the writers/media award have been honoured by the hall but have not become members of the hall. They are two different things.-DJSasso (talk) 00:45, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Could someone put in the info for the 2010-11 season? I'm pretty new to Wikipedia so I can't be trusted to do it right. We actually try and do it the opposite way, this page is a summary of the entire life of the franchise, and specific season by season information is supposed to be on their individual season pages. What's up with the infobox moving?

I see the lead infobox is now on the left and has moved all the text down. It appears that this has happened in other articles too. Does anyone know what's going on? Is this some new Wikipedia convention? (I tried digging around but couldn't find anything clarifying why this was done.) Quite frankly, it looks like crap this way and it's a pain in the arse to have to scroll past that relatively static information to find the article. I believe its because someone is playing with an underlying template. Happened the other day for awhile too. And affected every infobox on all articles. But it is back at normal for me now....maybe just reload the page. -DJSasso (talk) 16:53, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Odd, it seems to be fixed now; I simply clicked on the link back to the article (without doing a hard refresh by hitting Ctrl-F5) and it was back to normal. Very strange that it affected all articles in the way it did. Infobox needs reworking

I would say the info box at the top needs to be reworded/updated. Boudreau is no longer a coach for one, and Ted Leonsis revitalizing the team sounds a bit opinionated.

Former AOL executive Ted Leonsis has owned the team since 1999, and has revitalized the franchise by drafting star players such as Alexander Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green, and hiring former head coach Bruce Boudreau. The 2009–10 Capitals won the franchise's first-ever Presidents' Trophy, for being the team with the most points at the end of the regular season.

Replace Oates reference with current head coach Barry Trotz

Since Oates tenure was a single season, and did not actually move to revitalize the team, it seems not in keeping with the rest of the statement about Leonsis revitalizing the team. Jaroslav Svejkovský

Hello, I found the article about Jaroslav Svejkovský, in which it states "Svejkovský scored four goals, as Washington beat the Buffalo Sabres 8–3. As of 2011, he is the only Capitals rookie to score four goals in one game." 2011 seems a bit too long ago, does anyone here have any idea whether this is still true and can be updated to 2018?
