Hello. What a super project the Wikipedia is; I'm delighted to be a part of it. I have used it for reference for a good while, and now I'm really getting into the editing idea.

Mostly, I am interested in moral standings, health-medical, well-being of self and others mentally and physically(including drug abuse and how people actions effect themselves and others around them), cooking-food(what’s good and bad; intake and how to do so in moderation), cleanliness as in hygiene and environment, depression, just about anything new that may stimulate me at that time, new vocabulary(words), art, music, photography, Psychology, heck, even sociology and animal behavior(as in animals of all types and in humans).

Hello, Everybody. I've been a voracious reader of Wikipedia for a few months now, and I felt it was about time I started giving back.

I'm not exactly sure where I first heard of Wikipedia, although Slashdot seems a likely candidate (Check it out: my first link!).

Like many here, my professional expertise is software, but I know a thing or two outside the typical geek topics (honest!). I'll contribute what I can; I just hope I don't become too addicted (some level of addiction is inevitable, I know).

Hello - I've been browsing the site for a little while now, and I just decided to join today. I've made a few edits so far, but I haven't yet undertaken to create a page from scratch. I'm pretty confident that there's a tremendously thriving community of contributors here, but I'm wondering just how valid a source Wikipedia is considered to be, and how often people use it to gather information, rather than simply post. I've been using Wikipedia for a couple of months now, and thought it was about time I got a bit more involved. Im from Winchester in the UK. I like computers and technology, and related issues such as Open Source Software. By day I am a Systems Administrator, supporting mainly Linux and Solaris Servers. Grutness reporting for duty!

Hi everyone - my name is James Dignan, going by the name Grutness, which is the name of my art studios (and is originally from the name of a headland at the southern tip of Scotland's Shetland Islands. I was born in Barnet, north London, England, 1963, of English and New Zealander parents, but have been living in New Zealand since 1975.

I have lived in Dunedin, New Zealand, since 1981. I studied psychology at the University of Otago, gaining a B.A. and and M.Sc. I currently work as a part-time freelance writer and artist (with two solo exhibitions since 2002).

My interests are wide-ranging, and include art, music (I was songwriter, singer and guitarist for various bands during the 1980s and 1990s), geography, and flags. The latter interest has led to me being heavily involved with the Flags of the world web resource.

My main Wikipedia contributions for now will probably be connected with New Zealand history and geography: mostly entries on places in southern New Zealand.

Although my primary work experience is in management, sales, leadership, fundraising, and canvassing, my education is science and philosophy. I have a plenitude of interests, but perhaps I am here for humility…I am humbled by my lack of computer savvy. I have spent a few {sic} hours on the wikipedia, and have read (most of?) the FAQ, help, how-to’s, but even those seem never-ending. (NOT complaining). I will try to remain/become humble as I receive community help. Learning my way to get help and feedback will hopefully save me (some of my limited) time and frustration that could be spent on real contribution. I think Wikipedia is great, this is what the internet is all about! I have a degree in music, and have done some formal study in philosophy. My other interests are mythology and sacred texts of any and all religions. And I'll be posting in these areas.

Hi all. I am a Computer Science Honours student, with a BSc in Computer Science and Biochemistry. I am looking at pursuing a career in Bioinformatics, but am interested in history, computer games, politics, geography, zoology, and a whole lot of other topics. So far I've expanded the page on Pietermaritzburg, my home town, and severely edited the page on Zulu people, which provided a very condescending, "tourists-eye-view" of a very large and diverse ethnic group. I also added a bit about the Ansari X prize, and the development of Virgin Galactic. Otherwise, I've just been creating redirection pages and adding links here and there. It's difficult to find things that I know about, that haven't already been covered.

Heard about Wikipedia in a recent tech column by Paul Gilster in the Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer. Jumped in today to read up on the Red Sox after their breathtaking victory in the A.L. Championship Series, and was very impressed to find that several Red Sox-related pages already were updated with accounts of the games. (Loved 'Curse of the Bambino'.)

I have several interests, but the only one for which I'd say I have encyclopedic knowledge is baseball. Therefore, most of my editing will probably be in the baseball topics. Go Sox!

(aka Terry) Woo! for a new way to procrastinate. I did some minor (anon) edits when I first discovered Wikipedia yea on these many (well... 2) years ago, but have now decided to join properly and contribute what I can. I get major mental (and physical) gridlock when I try to write in real life (research journal articles and such), and I'm appreciating the opportunity to just write whatever comes into my head, knowing it's an ongoing process and I can continually fix it up, and that it will undoubtedly get edited to within a nanometre by gazillions of readers with gazillions of viewpoints who don't actually know me and thus don't have overly high expectations of me! Potentially a troublesome attitude, but at least it's getting me writing...

Also wanted to note that I'm quite sad to see all those oldtimers who've written such amazing entries and contributed to the fantastic structures and towering edifices getting jaded and fed up with it all! I don't know any of you, but... "Don't go! Come back! You guys are great!"

Paleorthid

A paleorthid is a desert soil type (Aridisols) which has been around for awhile and developed umm character. I am a consulting soil scientist (USA) and a webmaster (nscss.org). As webmaster I get a fair number of inquiries from students asking about soil science. I took my most recent response and adapted it to add it to soil science. I also went into wikitionary and added a few soil science terms. In the process I found an opportunity to clarify how the discipline of soil science is being represented. I wrote Agrology which links back to an original statement on soil science, to address a particularly disturbing inference that agrology=soil science. Researching this before I posted,I found that the agrology=soil science deal is actually in common usage by non-soil scientists and non-agrologists. I think I did the dilemma proper objective treatment on agrology. Look forward to moving ahead along these lines to address some other opportunities I came across. Just need to spend a few more days learning the wiki culture here before I can figure out the best approach. Great place you folks have here, looking forward to this.

How I got here? A friend linked it, when I posted some links on my LJ to interesting stuff I found on Everything2. (I like to wander E2 occasionally, but I'm not entirely comfortable with its layout.)

Interests? Assorted anime, some games, some sci-fi TV series, MU*s, assorted CCGs, designing and reading about fictional worlds... Most of this is listed in depth on my userpage.

Specific fields of knowledge? Er, not much actually; I do know quite a bit about Rockman.EXE, Megaman MUSH, Zoids, Digimon, and one or two others whose names escape me.. And the only ones that I'm up-to-date on are the Rockman/Megaman stuff, really. But there's nothing that I'm truly specialized in at this time.

But, um. I like information, and I happen to have a fair-sized amount of it regarding assorted anime and games. I'll see what I can put here, yes? :D
