On Ikezukuri[edit]

I checked, and it is Australia that bans Ikezukuri and Germany only banned Ikezukuri of shrimps. Reasoning goes that because Ikezukuri is a cruel practice (in Australia) and unlike fish, shrimps can sense pain (in Germany).

More on Ikezukuri. It is a relatively new practice, probably after 12th century when religious constraints were relaxed. Before that, most fish were cooked using fire because fish rots quite quickly and because it was considered unethical to eat something that wasn't dead. It was commonly practiced at restaurants during Edo-period because it was the only way for those going to there to know that they are eating something fresh. After refrigetation became common in 20th century, it is mostly done for the show at a party to show that the host has done everything to make a great party. It is somewhat like showing around meats at a barbecue with guests saying "Wow, those steaks look wonderful!".

Only fish and shrimps taken from sea could be used because river fish can have nasty parasites that can cause quite serious pains. With few exceptions, those fish with whitish meat, usually tai (sea bream) are used for Ikezukuri because these fish look better when topped. Also, fish are sliced on a cutting board and then topped onto a plate to be served. Sharp cooking knives can easily ruin an expensive plate and there is no point in taking a risk. Hi. Since you have edited on Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/German names, I would invite you to vote on Talk:Gdansk/Vote to settle the multi-year dozens-of-pages dispute about the naming of Gdansk/Danzig and other locations. The vote has two parts, one with questions when to use Gdansk/Danzig, and a second part affecting articles related to locations with Polish/German history in general. An enforcement is also voted on. The vote has a total of 10 questions to vote on, and ends in two weeks on Friday, March 4 0:00. Thank you -- Chris 73 Talk 07:23, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)

Your VandalProof Application[edit]

Dear CohenTheBavarian,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact with the new 1.2 version release it has even more power. As such we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that for security reasons, VandalProof's creator requires it's users to have made 250 edits to articles, which you have not. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again in the not too distant future. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof.

Thanks for your edit to User:Disavian/Userboxes/Queer-4[edit]

I've been so busy userfying that I haven't noticed small problems with the boxes... redirecting, AWBing, etc is rather hard work. Maybe I'll get around to making them uniform one day. --Disavian 16:14, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's a relief, I was almost afraid my edit would be perceived badly :) Cohen the Bavarian 16:50, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, I'll take all the help I can get :) Disavian 19:09, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FLCL[edit]

As a userbox fan of FLCL, would you be willing to vote for its nomination at Wikipedia's Article Improvement Drive? If elected, it will be the subject of a week-long overhaul, in an attempt to pass in to Featured Article status! Thanks, Litefantastic 17:14, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Natsumi Tsuji and Shinichiro Azuma[edit]

I think I put links to my sources in the edits I made on these articles, but people deleted all of it in their subsequent edits. You should be able to view them with the history tab, I think. Offhand, I was able to pull up an article on Shinichiro Azuma. The Kusogaki-domo o Kyūdan suru Homepage[2] has (had?) all these names on it, but it is always moving around. I cannot access the Natsumi Tsuji page now due to bandwidth excess, but it is here[3]. Evan1975 23:20, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:New Kitakyushu Airport logo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:New Kitakyushu Airport logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
