Ron Paul's official website does not mention him serving in Korea. Jamie Farr's fan website quotes him as saying his friends being shipped off to Korea, but does not mention his service there. Well, I was there, I was there! And I can document it. So put my name in the article!! --S. Rich 14:11, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

This must be a very important military decoration. Guess I'll just wait for the DoD to send me mine, because I sure as shinola won't be asking them for it. The only worthwhile event of my year at Camp Hovey was getting my yanggalbo out of there and getting my honorable discharge; Keep your medals, I'll keep my old girl and my dignity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Headless honcho (talkcontribs) 00:26, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

10 U.S. Code § 7286 - Korea Defense Service Medal U.S. Code

(a)The Secretary of the Army shall issue a campaign medal, to be known as the Korea Defense Service Medal, to each person who while a member of the Army served in the Republic of Korea or the waters adjacent thereto during the KDSM eligibility period and met the service requirements for the award of that medal prescribed under subsection (c). (b)In this section, the term “KDSM eligibility period” means the period beginning on July 28, 1954, and ending on such date after the date of the enactment of this section as may be determined by the Secretary of Defense to be appropriate for terminating eligibility for the Korea Defense Service Medal. (c)The Secretary of the Army shall prescribe service requirements for eligibility for the Korea Defense Service Medal. Those requirements shall not be more stringent than the service requirements for award of the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for instances in which the award of that medal is authorized.

Korea War Veterans are individuals who served during the Korean war. Their medals indicate service during an active war period when no ceasefire was imposed. (Examples: World War I&II, Vietnam, Desert Storm etc.) Korea Defense Veterans are individuals who served during an active ceasefire but engagements with enemy combatants continued. It also clarifies during the ceasefire servicemembers maintain an abnormally high degree of readiness. Hostilities (violations of the ceasefire) cause lives to American service members and their allies. (Examples of defense detachments: Germany (West Berlin), Berlin, Kosovo Defense etc.) The Korea Service Medal is considered a campaign medal. Under the law Congress issued a Campaign Medal called Korea Defense Service Medal. One is issued for the war, and the other is for the defense during the ceasefire agreement. Both medals give its wearer protective status and 5 points veteran's preference. The treaty was supposed to be completed 30 days after the ceasefire was signed in 1953. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wingram12 (talkcontribs) 22:31, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
