On my side of the 'Net, "awol" has been used when one is at the computer, but mentally absent from the chat. Is this a common use of the word? --Devnevyn 17:24, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The US Navy and Marine Corps use the term Abandoned Post without Cause (APWC) to officially denote a missing service member. My source is the Military.com website.

Redirect target[edit]

I've looked through the list of articles that link to this page, and the majority of them intend the military meaning at Desertion (in fact I couldn't find any that don't intend to link to the military meaning or its colloquial derivative). This indicates to me that "desertion" is the primary topic, and I think redirecting to desertion, with a {{redirect}}, is preferable to linking to the AWOL dab page.
