I've rewritten it!!(Ilya)[edit]

Right to this moment (6 Jan) I continued writing this page almost entirely by myself - including images (except for wikinette from French Wikipedia and mt photo). Certainly I have other work to do. So please let's find out what to do with this project.

Please understand[edit]

Please understand this: I'm writing it by myself for nearly two weeks. I can't implement everything that has been implemented by hundreds of people. So instead of asking me why you don't have such-and-such you should ask yourself what if I insert it somewhere?. And may be you will find that it's unnecessary :) . And please, think twice before inserting something here! It has been thought and rethought etc. - make your temp copy instead, please. When you finally tested your idea, then put it here. ilya

And I now that my images aren't the best ones. And my design. But I present you some guidelines and if you find them interesting - you may suggest better images. It's all under construction. DO not worry if you want to suggest something - think - write - suggest. ilya

Now it contains[edit]

  • Today
  • Lightbulb
  • Article of the day including Photo of the day
  • Quicklinks
  • What's going on
  • Interesting articles including in different languages
  • Multilingual

Your Opinion[edit]

General[edit]

Very Nice, but where is the Hindu calendar listing? --Merovingian 05:39, Dec 22, 2003 (UTC)

Exactly where you will decide to put it.

Jiang[edit]

Really neat. I really don't like the encyclopedia section of out current main page because many of the articles are of inferior quality. That should best be eliminated.

However, I see a couple problems: What happened to the community section? Ideally, "welcome newcomers" and all those other links need to be displayed on the main page to make the page

OK. Under construction

welcoming and useful. The main page should also be a showcase of out best articles. As such, listing articles needing peer review (thus with dubious content) is inappropriate.

I agree

How about moving this to Main Page/Temp8? --Jiang 08:15, 25 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Done, moved to Main Page/iTemp

Design[edit]

I suggest (ilya)[edit]

  1. Lightbulb in the future will produce Tip of the day when mouseover

Calendars[edit]

My opinion (ilya)[edit]

We should not be limited to the common Grigorian calendar. There are many people in the world and knowing what day they call today and what special meaning it has for them is useful for this multicultural project. I realize that this is English Wikipedia and most of its users live by this calendar. Still, the reality is so many people learn English as a second language that we'll have no choice but make this Wikipedia international de-facto. Everybody can create specific US, UK or EU - content pages, BTW.

And I doubt Anniversaries are so interested only because they were exactly (in one calendar, remember) 1234 years ago (although I realize that it's an interesting method for auto updating selected articles)

General ideas about selected articles[edit]

I say (ilya)[edit]

Do not write about each minor proposal in current EU talks - but place a link to European constitution instead

see Wikipedia is not a news service
Those who are interested in News are intelligent enough to look at 'Road map' when interesting in recent Israelian events

Oh, too much mathematics![edit]

I reply (ilya)[edit]

Sorry, as I love mathematics I inserted more about it then normal person. The only way to correct this is for you to suggest your own set of ideas (see below)

Concrete suggestions of images or quicklinks[edit]

Concrete suggestions of articles[edit]

Bugs[edit]

Buggy with Opera[edit]

It's Opera 7.23 and it's absolutely bad. I'm trying to understand what's going on. ilya
