Zocky[edit]

final (27/2/0) ended 05:00 8 June 2005 (UTC)

I've been around since October 2002 (with some pauses due to lack of internet access and/or abundance of real-life work). I never really needed sysop privileges until I noticed that the main page templates got protected. I've been bugging sysops on IRC to change the selection of anniversaries to make it more geographically distributed, but I should probably be doing it myself. The single-click vandal revert button would also come handy.

PS: I don't intend to comment on any votes or respond to any comments on this RFA. I believe that editors can read and understand other people's comments without my help. I will, of course, answer any direct questions.

  1. I found this statement from him on his talk page: "People are generally more likely to change their mind if you let them do it in their own time." That piece of wisdom alone is deserving of adminship. --Michael Snow 05:55, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  19. Strong support: If anyone thinks that we need an inclusionist for "balance" or something, this is the vote. Zocky and I disagree profoundly about when and how often things should be deleted, but Zocky works within policy, works to actually get compromises (and not just to flood a vote), and he has never sworn that the matter is settled because he has made up his mind. He represents good writing, good ethical behavior, and an even temperament. I've been urging him to go RfA for ages and would have nominated him, had I known he would agree. Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I don't do or intend to do RC patrol, but I regularly check my huge watchlist for vandals and edits that need improvement, as well as contributions of problematic IPs to see if they need to be reverted elsewhere. I also do random page improvements, but I don't need any special privileges for that.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I wrote or rewrote some articles, mainly about ex-Yugoslav matters, most notably (if I may say so myself) Assassination in Sarajevo, 1972 outbreak of smallpox in Yugoslavia and Hey, Slavs. I helped stop the ancient edit war on Oder/Odra and some others. I was one of the people who proposed the same principle for categorizing pages (see User:Zocky/Bottom-up categorization). I proposed the template namespace (see meta:Message substitution). I painstakingly calculated and typed in the appropriate sizes of flag thumbnails on Gallery of national flags. I reverted the vandal who said that "Margaret Thatcher was the first undead person to become the prime minister of UK". I never nominated Betsy Windsor on RfD, for which I apologize.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A.I don't think I've been in any conflicts. I've been involved in several disagreements about article contents; most were solved by evidence one of the sides provided. I've also been included in some (sometimes heated) debates about internal workings of the community, but I believe it was all conducted civilly.
