User:CryptoDerk/IRC etiquette

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here's a rough guideline of what I consider to be proper etiquette on IRC. Yes, we all have ignore lists for a reason, but it's better to try to help someone to not be annoying rather than ignore them while they continue down the way to destruction.

  1. Don't spam. Don't mention your website or some article/area within Wikipedia you're working on heavily unless it's of mass importance to the community (e.g. arbcom elections). Spamming includes telling people to go vote in a VFD or RFA.
  2. Don't brag. That means you shouldn't repeatedly mention your edit count or your "accomplishments" (e.g. I just got edit 2181!, I just finished tagging 43 images!).

Two very simple things. Two things that considerate people wouldn't do in real life or within Wikipedia proper! Would you go to Village Pump and write a post that you had just made your 1972nd edit or that you just put a vanity band article up for deletion?
