Microsoft Campus Agreement[edit]

ha, sorry about the late welcome, i didn't really check how long you'd been on. I listed it on pages needing expansion because I think it is a good article. I was thinking along the lines of benefits for the campus and microsoft. Now mostly it has student centered data. Unfortunately I don't have much info about the reasons for signing it as I also mostly come at it from a student pov. Solitude also added a list of participating schools, so that's good.

I can be of more help on your other question though :). Go to "Preferences", then "User data" then "Your nickname", there you can change your nickname display for signatures to whatever you'd like, and add links. That is also how some people have the little pictures, different color names and things. It doesn't change your actual username just the text that gets added with you do the ~~~ thing. - cohesion 08:32, Sep 26, 2004 (UTC)

sg episode standard[edit]

actually the episodes "the Tok'ra" are both on one page as well (go see).

the standard is that if two episodes have the same name then they go in one article (used ubiquitously, and decided early on in the wikiproject's inception [discussion probably now archived]).

so "The Eye" is seperate to "The Storm", "Avalon" (ps 1 and 2) are in one article and "Origin" in another, and likewise "The Seige" should refer to all three parts.-- Alfakim --  talk  02:28, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD Google Policy[edit]

Usually, I'll vote "Delete" if there are under hits on the subject. To merit a "Keep" vote, an article must have over 200 hits and must also be notable according to WP:N (and related pages such as WP:WEB and WP:BIO). Voting "Redirect" is if the article merits a "Delete" but is closely related to a subject that has substantial amount of content. I should include this in my policy...hm. pratical joke[edit]

While I do not believe that you have to remove it, I would like to ask that you do, seeing as it is very irritating to most Wikipedians. Thanks you. American Patriot 1776 18:04, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I think it is rather presumptious of you to presume to speak on behalf of most wikipedians, but whatever. It's been removed. :\ TerraFrost 19:47, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure where you meant to put this...[edit]

... but this edit of yours was to the talk page for discussing the Village pump; I suspect you meant to put it on one of the six village pump pages, since it is not about the VP. - Jmabel | Talk 21:54, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The One Ring Article[edit]

You thought my starting paragraph overplayed the power of the ring. I wrote all of that section Powers of the Ring and no one has really bothered to change it except for minor grammar corrections. I admit, I got the illusions of the ring mixed up with what it actually does. I believe the rest after that is fairly accurate, though. Feel free to change it to something more accurate that reflects what the ring can do.--24.130.125.164 15:05, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikification of Apothecary on James Kim article[edit]

Hi and thanks for your comment. I probably should have put this in the discussion page before just unwikifying it, so I understand your concern. I removed it because 1) Apothecary is a common word which should be known by anyone familiar with the English language. We can't link every word just because some people might not know its meaning. Articles would have every other word linked. Those who don't know the meaning of words can look them up themselves. 2) The Church Street Apothecary does not even fit the definition of an Apothecary, which is essentially a pharmacy or drug store that prepares and dispenses prescripton drugs. The Church Street Apothecary, according to its own website is, "a provider of holistic, organic, and international health and beauty products for the entire family." That is not an apothecary.

I do understand that there is still an issue with possible other readers not knowing what an apothecary is and also it might be useful to clarify this. So I'd suggest we modify the article something like this: "The Kims owned the Church Street Apothecary, a retail estblishment in San Francisco specialzing in holistic, organic, and international health and beauty products." Crunch 18:06, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't mean to be condescending and I understand some people are learning English as a second language, but again this is an English language article and I stand by my statement that Apothecary is a fairly common word in the English language. If we start linking any word that might be unknown to non-native speakers, we'll be linking every word which is against Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia is not a dictionary. And, again, the link to the Apothecary article does absolutely nothing to inform the reader about what the Kims' store is about. Crunch 00:31, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Replicator-ship.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Replicator-ship.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. removal of material from the Lewis Libby talk page[edit]

You removed my question from the Lewis Libby because "[the talk page] is not a discussion forum."

Well, for one, it is a discussion forum. A discussion forum dedicated to improving the article. And for two, I, personally, believe my question is relevant to the article. If people on the right have criticized Bushes actions for not granting Lewis Libby, it should be mentioned in the article. Maybe you should be a little less trigger happy when it comes to removing material, next time...

In any event, do you have any objections to my readding my question? TerraFrost 19:44, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes. Please follow Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Your question is inappropriate. It does not concern "making improvements to the article." It is a question pertaining only to the subject of the article, not to impoving the article. I moved the content that you placed on my talk page to your own talk page. I do not think that you should re-add your question to the talk page of the article: Talk: Lewis Libby. It is not a discussion forum on any other matter than making improvements to the article. Your question is not relevant to that. --NYScholar 20:18, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
From the talkpage header: "This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Lewis Libby article. This is not a forum for general discussion about the article's subject." Please consult that and the other headers. Such questions are not permitted in articles by WP:BLP. Please read the policy page and follow the related links to other policies and guidelines posted in it. Thanks. --NYScholar 20:21, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Please stop posting comments relating to Talk:Lewis Libby on my personal talk page. Thank you. --NYScholar 21:00, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Lagrangesatellite.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lagrangesatellite.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bombadil.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bombadil.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:21, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the prod template to the article Gordon Brothers Group, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. A tag has been placed on Cousins Properties requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Cousins Properties[edit]

I saw your discussion with Malleus Fatuorum, and upon looking into it, I've restored the article, and added a reference that should make it immune to speedy deletion under A7. I've no real stake in whether someone PROD's it, AFD's it, etc.

Note that in the form it was when it was tagged and deleted, it did not make an assertion of notability, and an A7 speedy was not ureasonable. The easy way to get this undeleted would have been to politely raise the issue with the deleting admin, and tell them that if it was undeleted you would add such an assertion. Would have saved you quite a bit of typing and arguing. --Floquenbeam (talk) 18:02, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Cousins Properties, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cousins Properties (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Microsoft Campus Agreement requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Misterdiscreet (talk) 05:13, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Lakeline Mall and others[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated articles are Lakeline Mall, Microsoft Campus Agreement. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to the relevant discussion pages: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lakeline Mall for Lakeline Mall, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Microsoft Campus Agreement for Microsoft Campus Agreement. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:06, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Radagast.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Radagast.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.
  • To opt out of these bot messages, add to your talk page.

Is that the logo? Or is it a photograph of a T-shirt? If it's the later, and you took it, I'm not sure we need to use a FU tag, there might be something more liberal. Maury Markowitz (talk) 10:54, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Naqahdah-collage.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Naqahdah-collage.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:05, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on OATS (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Help me![edit]

Please help me with... I'm trying to add map data to Walnut Creek (Central Texas) and am having some difficulty.

Using the National Hydrography Dataset I created this:

Template:Attached KML/Walnut Creek (Central Texas)

I then tried to add it to Walnut Creek (Central Texas) by doing this:

#
#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------
#
{{Infobox river
| name = Walnut Creek ( Central Texas)
| image = Walnut Creek at Pioneer Farms.jpg
| image_size = 240
| image_caption =
#
#-----[ AFTER, ADD ]------------------------------------
#
| map=

The problem is that that is getting me a <mapframe>: Couldn't parse JSON: Syntax error error when I try to preview it.

Any ideas? TerraFrost (talk) 13:04, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at Wikipedia:Map data/Main Roads Western Australia/Forrest Highway as an example, the template is expecting JSON, but your data is in XML. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 21:07, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I'd also check out Wikipedia:Map data and the Commons page linked in the hatnote; §How includes a link to a KML-to-JSON script. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 21:14, 1 September 2021 (UTC) (Courtesy pinging Shushugah for existing converter) Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 21:17, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@TerraFrost @Primefac My suspicion is Template:Attached KML/Walnut Creek (Central Texas) is currently XML, when the raw attribute of Template:Maplink is expecting GeoJSON. I am trying an online converter from XML to GeoJSON to see if that works. ~ Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:09, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@TerraFrost @Rotideypoc41352 the good news is: renders properly, which suggests that Template:Infobox river is not expecting an embedded Template:maplink but this is a step ahead now Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:32, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I disabled the above two maplink templates because they make editing this talk page excrutiating (I had to wait a minute after saving my comment below, and it failed with a "time...has expired" message). Johnuniq (talk) 05:28, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Shushugah - I converted the (fixed) XML to GeoJSON to get Wikipedia:Map_data/Walnut_Creek (Central Texas) but now I'm getting a <mapframe>: The JSON content is not valid GeoJSON+simplestyle. The first validation error is on the element "/0/query": "The property query is required". error. I don't understand. When I do Ctrl + F on Wikipedia:Map data/Main Roads Western Australia/Forrest Highway I don't see query anywhere in that json... TerraFrost (talk) 01:55, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I "fixed" the "time allocated for running scripts has expired" problem at Walnut Creek (Central Texas) by purging the page. It's easiest to do it this way: Click edit to edit the whole page. Click Publish at the bottom to publish/save it. Do not enter an edit summary and do not change anything. That causes the server to have another go at rendering (displaying) the page. This time we got lucky and it worked. The fundamental problem is that the system for displaying maps is crazy as it is asking the system to do far too much work (Template:Attached KML/Walnut Creek (Central Texas) is over 99KB and it has to be parsed and processed in a very time-consuming manner). I don't know the solution but I think I've raised the issue before. I have not digested the comments immediately above. If there is still a problem, please comment again. Johnuniq (talk) 05:23, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnuniq - Even if all I do is click Publish I'm still getting another error now: <mapframe>: The JSON content is not valid GeoJSON+simplestyle. The first validation error is on the element "/0/query": "The property query is required".. See https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Walnut_Creek_(Central_Texas)&oldid=1041932205 . I mean, I can try to reduce the size of the JSON by using ST_Simplify but if the JSON can't be parsed it can't be parsed and simplifying it won't help with that. Removing the names (or reducing the information in them) for each segment would help to. But again, I don't see the point if the JSON won't even validate. This latest JSON is parsed just fine on https://geojson.io/#map=12/30.3519/-97.6952 so idk why it'd be an issue on wikipedia. https://pastebin.com/QN1ev82w is the new KML (the original KML I posted was bad) if it helps TerraFrost (talk) 11:51, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Something is not right with the data. I created a map on Commons using the KML data converted to GeoJSON and well, see for yourself. –Fredddie 13:52, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I read over the thread and I'll try it again with the new data. –Fredddie 13:54, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is an easier way to do all this if you have a KML file to begin.
  1. Upload the KML to Template:Attached KML/<pagename>
  2. Using User:Evad37/kmlToJson, convert the KML to GeoJSON, select-all and copy
There are two links in the KML page's edit notice, one goes to Wikipedia:Map data/Wikipedia KML/<pagename>, the other to commons:Data:<pagename>.map
The Commons version will use far, far fewer resources than the raw data hosted on enwiki will.
  3. At Commons, paste the converted GeoJSON to the data field; be sure to paste over these brackets.
        "data": {

            ... GeoJSON ...

        }

  4. Fill in the particulars of the other fields (center coords, description, license, etc.) and save.
  5. You should be able to use the Commons map like this: . Maplink-road is just a shorthand for
We use these maps pretty extensively for roads, so you can always drop a question at WT:USRD. –Fredddie 14:10, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Fredddie - thank you!! TerraFrost (talk) 20:14, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I had the same problem and was able to fix it. The error occured because property values, that expect a number as input, had quotation marks in them (e.g. "stroke-opacity": "1" instead of "stroke-opacity": 1. After removing the quotation marks the error message disappeared. --Renek78 (talk) 07:27, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free images[edit]

Hi! The image situation is somewhat complex. It seems the individual portrait pics were uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. But non-free images cannot go there. (Commons:Commons:Licensing makes it clear the Commons only takes freely licensed images). They must be locally uploaded to the English Wikipedia. The reasons for deletion on the Commons do not translate to having these images deleted on the English Wikipedia.

Additionally, I chose to put the two portraits in the same file, instead of separate files, as per WP:NFCC which calls for having the fewest number of non-free images possible ("Minimal number of items. Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information."). WhisperToMe (talk) 02:50, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
