I'd like somebody knowledgeable in "old style" rails with joints, welded rails and long welded rails to have a look. David.Monniaux 21:25, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Shouldent this page be moved to Rail tracks since that is what it's about G-Man 21:38, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)

For rail in electronics, see ...[edit]

I'm not sure what value this adds without at least a reference to a stub or a synonym. Is there a synonym? Thanks. Jim 15:11, 25 October 2005 (UTC) what is the full form of RAIL ??[reply]

Rails for Mounting Servers in Rack[edit]

There does not seem to be an option for server mounting rails.

RailRail (disambiguation) – This should redirect to Rail transport because it appears to be the primary topic. Although I'm not proposing a move yet, I would like to know your opinions on moving Rail transport to Railroad. Interstellarity (talk) 23:04, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ultimately, Track (rail transport) might be a better candidate as a primary topic for "rail", since Rail transport is simply transportation that uses rails. If someone refers to "rail" (by itself), they may be more likely to be referring to the track than to the transportation systems that use it. There are also many other types of rail that are identified on the disambiguation page – handrail, guard rail, other types of railing, birds called rails, etc. I'm not convinced there is a WP:Primary topic here. —BarrelProof (talk) 00:40, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – "appears to be" is not an adequate rationale for a primarytopic takeover. Dicklyon (talk) 05:39, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support but I can also see the appeal of a concept dab, perhaps. But the only topic here with real educational significance that is commonly referred to as "rail" is indeed rail transport. I think moving "rail transport" (a very British title) to "railroad" (a title used in every variety of English) has a good chance to succeed. Red Slash 17:09, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • No, "railroad" is certainly not commoner throughout the world than "rail transport". It's a minority term mostly only used in North America for what most of the rest of us call railways. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:07, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly oppose moving "Rail transport" to "Railroad". (If asking whether "Rail transport" should be moved to "Railroad" is not proposing a move, what is it?) The whole point of using "Rail" in this and other article titles is WP:COMMONALITY between varieties of English that use "railroad" and "railway". And rail transport is more than just the railway itself. Oppose that "rail transport" is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC considering the many other meanings of "rail". 94.21.219.127 (talk) 02:31, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Most certainly oppose moving Rail transport to Railroad. That term is only really used in North America. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:07, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
