Untitled[edit]

I have never heard that Abida studied qawwali under Nusrat. Does anyone know for sure whether this is true?

I don't believe it's true. Sarabseth 03:05, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A bit POV[edit]

Claims about Parveen's magnificent voice are a bit POV, but I didn't edit it out because I wasn't sure what to put instead. Can we source these words to someone (or even a critical consensus)? --Dvyost 22:28, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

musical training[edit]

"She received her musical training initially from her father, Ghulam Haider, and subsequently from Ustad Salamat Ali Khan." The Ghulam Haider entry says her father died before she was born. Sarabseth 03:03, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This link is not correct. Abida's father is not to be confused with the Music Director Ghulam Haider. Abida's father ran a music school and was very much alive when Abida was born.

according to the word of abida parveen she did receive her inital musical training from her father. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.30.99.159 (talk) 19:08, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Passed Away[edit]

Just curious...why is "passed away" not kosher?

Seems to me it's a cultural bias. There are large parts of the world where "passed away" is the normal usage, e.g. India-Pakistan. So using this phrase in the context of articles relating to that region seems perfectly okay to me. But what do I know? --Sarabseth 12:35, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality Flag[edit]

It said:

Please see the discussion on the talk page. (July 2008) Please do not remove this message until the dispute is resolved.

But there's no discussion here. Since there is no indication whatsoever why the neutrality was called into question, there doesn't seem to be any point in retaining the neutrality flag. Hence removed. --Sarabseth (talk) 12:14, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding properly sourced material: please help[edit]

Surely we can put together an article that does justice to Abida's status in the world of Sufi music while also respecting Wikipedia guidelines?

I will try to work on adding properly sourced material. If anyone can furnish useful references, that will be highly appreciated.

Thanks! --Sarabseth (talk) 19:01, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh[edit]

It has been discovered that this book:

  • Gupta, Om. Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Gyan Publishing House, 2006. ISBN 8182053897, 9788182053892.

Contains significant amounts of material plagiarized from Wikipedia articles. (Some other books from the same publisher also have this problem). There is no practical way of determining which material came from Wikipedia, and which came from other sources. Further, widespread plagiarism is an indication of poor scholarship. For those reasons, and according to Wikipedia policy, WP:CIRCULAR, I will deleting all citations to the book. However I will not delete the material that cites it, as there's no indication that the material is inaccurate. For more background, see WP:RSN#Circular references: Gyan Publishing and ISHA Books, or the archive after it goes there.   Will Beback  talk  22:48, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

VIAF data gives 1954 and 1957 as years of birth from different sources. Therefore, I have removed DOB info from the article until more definite data can be found. Also, how about we split off the very large Discography section to an article? --Geniac (talk) 14:24, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
