Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman[edit]

I forget the character's names, but there was a very memorable episode of MH, MH when a character who played a country singer went on Dinah! and said that everyone seemed so nice--despite the fact that Dinah was one of the people "that killed her lord". It was a hoot! Does anyone remember the details? [unsigned]

Yes, the character was named Loretta and she was played by the actress, Mary Kay Place. In addition to being a budding country singer, Loretta was also Mary Hartman's best friend and next-door neighbor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.61.208.172 (talk) 01:53, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death and legacy[edit]

I changed the following sentence: "Hopefully, through network or cable broadcast, or home DVD release, these classic television moments will be made available to the public."

I changed it to: "Fans of Dinah Shore hope that, through network or cable broadcast, or home DVD release, these classic television moments will be made available to the public."

My reason is that the previous version endorses the release of these materials instead of objectively reporting the hope of fans. Although we do not have a quote of fans asking for the release of these shows, we can safely assume via judicial notice that it is their wish. The alternative would be to cut the sentence.

Since Her Parents Were Russian Jews...[edit]

... it's highly unlikely that she had black ancestry. Come on, she appears to have no black physical features whatsoever, and there are no reliable references stating it, either. This has nothing to do with politics, racism, or whatever. She either did or did not have black ancestry, and in this case, it appears to me that she didn't.

Highly unlikely, but not impossible. Without getting into jokes about 'Black Russians', there are some examples of African ancestry among Russians; Pushkin, for example, had some African ancestors. Peter Ustinov also had mixed Russian and Ethiopian heritage.Widmerpool (talk) 04:33, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hillcrest[edit]

The link to the Hillcrest Country Club (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillcrest_Country_Club) does not point to the famed Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles (on Pico Boulevard) -- I do not know how to change the link -- but it should be changed to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillcrest_Country_Club_(Los_Angeles) -- thanks, steve Srlevine1 (talk) 08:45, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It appears somebody fixed this. Jordan Brown (talk) 23:19, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Year of Death[edit]

Actually, she did not die five days before her 78th birthday because she was born on February 29 which is a leap year and 1994 was not a leap year — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.38.189.88 (talk) 03:35, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Birth name[edit]

The article gives her birth name as "Fannye Rose Shore", while the textbox has it as "Francis Rose Shore". (The FindADeath website gives the spelling as "Frances".) Which is correct? CFLeon (talk) 23:24, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

First major exposure[edit]

The article does not mention that Dinah was a featured singer backed by the Francis Craig Orchestra and broadcast a national radio show from the Hermitage hotel. This must have been her first major gig and exposure I think when she was 18: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermitage_Hotel Groovamos (talk) 03:20, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Birth[edit]

Dinah Shore's DOB is given as 1 Mar 1917 in two refs; 'Dinah! A Biography' and the jwa.org article. Previously, it was 29 Feb 1916 in the article but that claim did not have any refs, so I made updated the DOB. If a change is to be made, please provide supporting refs and seek consensus here on the Talk page. Ciridae (talk) 14:03, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
