This is the first time I am hearing about the myth about the chera king creating Kerala. The story of Parasuraman is wellknown (also found in works of poets like Mahakavi Ulloor). The myth about chera king seems to be much less reliable.

Chera Kings were rulers of Kerala when it was part of Tamil Kingdom.

Please look at the books by Sreedhara Menon[edit]

You can find mention of this lore in one of the books by A. Sreedhara Menon. Please look at "Cultural Heritage of Kerala" and "A Survey of Kerala History". ---Vivin Paliath (വിവിന് പാലിയത്)

meaning of "namboodiri"[edit]

Someone add the proper meaning of "namboodiri".also is it "Namboodiri" correct spelling? Myself added the meaning of Namboodiri

Namboothiri population - any estimates?[edit]

I'm trying to find out what percentage of Kerala population are Namboothiris. Alternatively, does anyone have an approximate count of Namboothiris in Kerala?

In articles discussing demographics, their numbers seem to be lumped into "Nairs & other forward castes" category. --Das

Namboothiri Surnames[edit]

Is it not that Poti is also a surname of Namboodiries?. Please remember Late D. Damodaran Poti, Former Speaker of Kerala Assembly? What about Ilayathu?
