Unfortunately I am not able to understand the purpose of this template. Who will insert it? When? What needs to be done when it is inserted? By whom? Will it be removed afterwards? I think practice will show.

1. I have seen conflicts where Wikipedias as fi:, ja:, ko:, vi:, zh: etc. have been involved. There I have no chance to do anything.
2. I have seen also conflicts which I would have been able to solve (as I made for the ro:Special:Allpages/Dacia — "Dacia" pages) but first I do not have the time to solve them all and on the other hand it is a good exercise for other people to aproche this topics, on some topics as languages there are very good specialised people — see conflicts for 20 different language titles.
3. In order to learn how to operate eo:User:GangleriBot I was running the bot over all pages from eo:Special:Whatlinkshere/Hungario, eo:Special:Whatlinkshere/Rumanio, eo:Special:Whatlinkshere/Brazilo. At the first run I have seen lots of conflicts about the coutry, flag and hymn lists. Because this was consuming a lot of resources I deleted manualy these "bad guys" for the last run. It would be much more easier, if there would be an option for bot to discard linking pages at the first occurence of {{interwikiconflict}}. Regards Gangleri | Th | T 21:17, 2005 Mar 15 (UTC)

I do not even see the problem: Interwiki connects two pages that treat more or less the same content. Of course there will be chains of links that will show enough drift to return to a different page for the original language. That's to be expected, and interwiki bots have to deal with that. Since such chains are not really different from chains that human intervention has declared to be drifting too much, I'd say a bot could add it to its skip-list itself, just as a human would do otherwise. • Halló Aliter! I have seen dozens of very strange interlanguage links. The list below relates neither to you nor to fy:. My opinion is that

1. it should be easy to insert these links and have simple rools
   1. do not hide interlanguage links in templates
   2. do not use piped links
   3. make interlanguage links between apropriate namespaces (article namespace to article namespace; exception Wikipedia and Help namespaces)
2. link only content related pages and avoid multiple (direct or indirect) links from more articles from another Wikipedia / project to your own Wikipedia / project.
   1. do not make interlanguage links to missing or empty pages
   2. do not make interlanguage links to redirects
   3. do not mage interlanguage links to pages that maight be deleted Template:Delete (and variants), Template:Copyvio (and variants)
   4. use proper coding of the links
      1. no leading / trailing spaces / underscores, no multiple /intermexed apaces / underscores (also inside)
      2. no {{ns:foo}} coding
      3. preferable no % coding
      4. preferable no underscores
      5. preferable readable text and no ü &#nnnn; &#xnnnn; coding
      6. preferable right namespace names (not the english equivalens)
3. please use "inline links" if you want to mention pages from Wikipedias in other languages in other / additional pages or "subpages" if the first are already linked to a — only one — page in your Wikipedia
4. I think there is a need for (mainly for the "project" namespace, for the "Main Page", for the protected "MediaWiki" namespace) to "tag" the place where interlanguage links are inserted. A tag could look as <!--- Interwiki - do not move - (translation of "do not move" in local language) --->. Bots should be able to handle this; they should not move the interlanguage links.

I see. While that doesn't explain the purpose, I do understand you want the Wikipedias to put enough weight on your concerns to allow changing those constructs because of your concerns. I trust you aim to improve Wikipedia, but the improvement of Wikipedia is usually also why those constructs were used to begin with. Usually, the reasons for those constructs are not related to automation, but rather to humans. Of course, you yourself will meet each of those cases above only once, as you then adapt the software, after which it is no longer a concern. On the other hand, the concerns that originally lead to that choice of construct usually do remain valid. As a result, it doesn't seem to make much sense to ignore human concerns for the sake of automation, if the automation can be made to adapt to those human concern instead. Gangleri has created this template on af:. I have added a redirect from template:disambig to template:dubbelsinnig. A question: aparently the idea is to leave the conflict template empty, but would it make sense to put a category statement in it so that we can see which pages give problems? af:Gebruiker:Jcwf 152.1.193.141 22:35, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

My original idea with Template:Interwikiconflict was to use it as an indication for bots and GlobalWPSearch and let it empty. We should build a team of people from many Wikipedias skilled to fix such issues. Thank you for the proposal to add a category in the templates. Another proposal was to add an optional comment as described at Specifying details in Template:Interwikiconflict. My only concern about generating a text or a category is that newbees could make things worse. Maybe it will take one or two month from now to find appropriate procedures.
