Moved from article

What I heard is that James Joyce once called James Stephens the true living master of the English language and he named Stephens to complete his unfinished works when he died. It's hard to imagine that this is true, though James Stephens is a wonderful writer--but so sentimental and sugary that one wouldn't think James Joyce would much care for him.

The claims that Joyce described Stephens to Stanislaus Joyce as "my rival, the latest Irish genius", and that for two years they discussed plans for Stephens to finish Finnegan's Wake if Joyce was unable to, is made in the introduction (pp7–8) of the Arcturus Publishing 2020 Pbk Edition of Irish Fairy and Folk Tales ISBN 978-1-83857-539-7 (originally Irish Fairy Tales, Macmillan 1920). {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.199.215.44 (talk) 18:41, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
