Cause of Death[edit]

On the www.popeye.com page, under the History tab, it says that Segar died of leukemia, not "a liver disease" as this article states. I just added a reference that includes a scan of Segar's death certificate, which lists COD as portal cirrhosis.PacificBoy 12:10, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Real life Popeye?[edit]

After some exensive research, I believe the cartoon "Popeye the Salor Man" by Elzie Crisler Segar was based on a real life character named Zebulon Northrup Tilden aka: Zeb Tilden . His boat was the Alice S. Wentworth which sank in Boston Harbor tied up to The Athanis Pier 4 Restorant in 1966. Zeb was tall,crossed eyed,very strong,smoked a corn-cob pipe,loved to cook,especialy green vegitables,was a ladies man,(married 3 times)was fond of talking and singing to himself habitually and he looked like the caractor in the cartoon. Actually, Segar is believed to have based Popeye on Frank "Rocky" Fiegle, a man who was handy with his fists during Segar's youth in Chester, Illinois (Segar based nearly all of his characters on Chester residents). Article name[edit]

Current Wikipedia practice is to list people under the name they are best known, and then list their full or real name in the first paragraph. I've moved this page accordingly. --Chowbok 16:18, Apr 16, 2005 (UTC)

Addition of a "disambiguation" topic.[edit]

There is a "People Mover" train station named Segar too so I'm gonna modify the page by merely adding an "Other Meanings" section -- no more, no less, no distractions, and no disruptions.

The first two external links? Under the topic "External Links"? No, the first one links to an article about E.C. Segar by Ed Black on the Great Lakes NCS Newsletter web site, and the second links to an article about Popeye on the Minneapolis City Pages. Are you sure you aren't referring to the internal links (the ones to other Wikipedia articles) in the body of the text? Those link to articles about the highlighted words or phrases, and may not be directly related to the article itself. Early work[edit]
