The album[edit]

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this album was worse than the previous ones? The songs don't sound like disco music any more, instead like whiny romance songs you'd expect from the likes of Take that or New kids on the block. 8:28, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Genre of 'Release' - and of Pet Shop Boys in general[edit]

Hello there. Someone keeps adding the genre of "soft rock" to this album. Pet Shop Boys have never been classified as such. They fall into synthpop, electronic, electronica, dance, dance pop and alternative. While 'Release' was indeed a departure from their previous sound, it is hardly considered "soft rock." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whigged (talkcontribs) 20:04, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Whigged: Thank you for starting a discussion about your concerns. From what reliable source are you basing this on, or is this just your opinion ? - FlightTime (open channel) 21:36, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@FlightTime: Other than their being no indication, anywhere, that PSB are soft rock band, there's AllMusic, one of the most reliable and respected music review sites out there. Here is their landing page on Pet Shop Boys: https://www.allmusic.com/artist/pet-shop-boys-mn0000260212. This is their review for 'Release' which has applicable genres indicated: https://www.allmusic.com/album/release-mw0000217243. On the official Facebook page of the band, their genre is listed, simply, as "Synthpop": https://www.facebook.com/pg/petshopboys/about/

That sufficient or is more needed?
