Best remembered as Nightcrawler?[edit]

I'm sorry, but I find the "best remembered as Nightcrawler" part to be rather questionable. His roles as Boris in Goldeneye, Sandy Frink in Romy and Michele, and Fegan Floop in Spy Kids all come to my mind before Nightcrawler. Nightcrawler's role in X2 was rather minimal, and he is not even going to be returning for X-Men 3.

Agreed. Besides, he's not dead ("Remembered?") and, if anything, his career has only recently begun to take off. In New York he is probably best "known" for his role as the Master of Ceremonies in Cabaret. --DavidShankBone 21:36, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. I personally remember him best as the Emcee in the revival of 'Cabaret' on Broadway. Many others will too.

Category: LGBT rights activists[edit]

Does anyone have any sources for Alan Cumming being specifically involved in LGBT rights rather than just being gay bisexual? I suspect the category (Category: LGBT rights activists) should be removed.-- Ashley VH 08:10, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He's not gay. Here you go: http://www.planetout.com/entertainment/interview.html?sernum=1076 Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 09:31, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good source but from my reading it does not say he is gay or straight (though his quote "I think it's really important to stand up and be happy for what we've got. But it's really a bad time to be gay in America right now." seems to indicate he is gay). From this article it might be clearer to put Alan under Category:British human rights activists but it is interesting he mentions GLAAD. As the article does not specifically discuss his involvement in (gay) rights activism, I've removed the LGBT rights activists until some sourced description is added (possibly by me in a few days time).-- Ashley VH 10:22, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Already changed my mind, I've added his being awarded the Vito Russo Award by GLAAD under his personal life. -- Ashley VH 11:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's not gay because he's bisexual. This is referenced in the article, and the lead section for that matter. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 13:02, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I agree. My original question was really about his role as a LGBT rights activist rather than his sexuality. I think the GLAAD reference is a sufficient source to keep him in this category.-- Ashley VH 14:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

voice work[edit]

Alan Cumming also provided the voice of the Devil in God, the Devil and Bob which I would suggest is more significant than some of the other things he is 'best known for' listed here. He has also been popular in the UK for a considerable time, long before he did Cabaret in New York. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.205.224.155 (talk) 09:27, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Description of the Max character from L Word[edit]

I fixed an editorialized and non factual description which was reverted. What's up?

  • "...the only regular male character on the show."

What is meant by "regular" in this case? The description I used provides some actual history, and he's definitely not a "regular male", nor the only one. There are many "regular" male characters who have no gender issues at all. Some are straight and some are gay or bisexual. Max is anything but "regular". Filmfluff (talk) 17:01, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Regular" in a TV context is somebody not an occasional guest star. Geez. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 02:15, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

potential sources[edit]

These dont belong on the main page external link section per WP:EL. If they are reliable sources, someone may wish to incorporate the information into the article. -- The Red Pen of Doom 23:14, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

His Father[edit]

I think someone has misunderstood the info about his abusive father. He claimed later in life that Alan wasn't his son but this wasn't true, it was something he said to hurt him. http://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/2014/nov/14/alan-cumming-i-never-felt-achieved-enough-always-told-was-nothing

That was me. Thanks for clarifying this. I have the book but haven't read it yet so was confused. I fixed the references. Thanks! - Erika BrillLyle (talk) 14:05, 16 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Missing foreskin[edit]

Today, mentions of Cummings' book May the Foreskin Be with You were removed by 79.20.112.252 and User:Jamesofur, claiming that the book doesn't exist. How then are http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/778420035 and ISBN 978-1-936-83339-9, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13586991-may-the-foreskin-be-with-you, http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/714991682, http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/throsby/alan-cumming/6488022, http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344719912l/13586991.jpg, etc, explained? -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 00:25, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Victor and Barry[edit]

Why is there nothing about Victor and Barry? There appeared on TV, theater and even panto.. --Crazyseiko (talk) 16:04, 12 July 2016 (UTC) You can even see it here: http://www.alancumming.com/1988/[reply]

Scottish citizenship[edit]

And how long is Scotland an independent country?😏--Modun (talk) 11:45, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DNA[edit]

I don't understand "Cumming and his brother took DNA tests that proved they were indeed his biological children". Surely what the tests show is that he and his brother have the same father. They do not identify who the father was is. 86.167.229.152 (talk) 17:56, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Role[edit]

Why no mention at all of his role in X-Men 2? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.3.118.18 (talk) 22:18, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth?[edit]

Hey, uninterested editor here RC patrolling and stuff, I see the addition of the birthday without a valid source, this might be a valid source. I don't know if Playbill would be considered a reliable source here or not, and it doesn't show his year, just his birthday, January 27th, so perhaps it could be added without his age able to be confirmed, just January 27th.
