About the maps[edit]

The map "Guilin in Guangxi", also the other maps about the cities in Ghuangxi are not clear and exact. I think the maps(zh:Image:GuilinOfGuangXi.png) on zh:桂林 is much better. But I don't know how to uploud them. So I need someone to do this. Thanks.--Flsxx 14:24, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sky Holes?[edit]

Has anybody heard of the "sky holes" near Guilin? http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2006/10/18/sinkhole_pla.html?category=earth&guid=20061018103000 Bob the Hamster 19:53, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I live in Guilin but I didn'k know any sky holes here. Sky holes, Chinese say it "tiankeng, 天坑", many famous sky holes are in Chongqing or Baise and Hechi, which are located in the west of Guangxi. There are many mountains here, so maybe Guilin has sky holes but not famous.--Flsxx 08:38, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Original name[edit]

Was it originally called Yulin (郁林) during the period of Nanyue and soon thereafter? Badagnani (talk) 18:58, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation[edit]

Is the right pronunciation of "Gui-" as in guitar or is it "gu-ee-lin"?. It would be nice to have it added to the article. thx —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.97.231.40 (talk) 21:02, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, not like "guitar"; more like "gway". It's pinyin, so those are the rules that apply. I don't understand the International Phonetic Alphabet that Wikipedia insists on to show pronunciation, so I'm reluctant to add it to the article. TJRC (talk) 22:05, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

pronunciation 2[edit]

"An HSBC commercial, boasting of the bank's "local knowledge", showed cormorant fishing in Guilin, and managed to get the pronunciation wrong." - Amusingly observed, but also unreferenced and a bit vague - what's "wrong" about the pronunciation? Just the fact that it's in an English accent? Lfh (talk) 16:32, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Population[edit]

What about population? It has about 5 million (according to Baidu Enc.) Savkovich Y (talk) 15:01, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox picture[edit]

Hi @Rangtengpa: I'm not denying that it's a nice photo, I've just moved it into the "Scenic Spots" section where it belongs. You're right I'm not aware of a policy that says a prefecture-level cities should contain a photo of the city in its infobox, but there is a precedent. Feel free to look at some other cities around China, and if you have the time you might want to create a montage picture that could include rural photos (see Liuzhou for example). --NoGhost (talk) 19:50, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
