Boundaries[edit]

I don't think too many people went to Echo Park because they were priced out of East Hollywood ; rents and housing prices in both neighborhoods have tended to be similar (East Hollywood is probably slightly cheaper than Echo Park right now, as it is only beginning to undergo gentrification). I would not consider East Hollywood to be an upscale neighborhood, either. Many of Echo Park's residents were priced out of Silver Lake and Los Feliz, with quite a few having moved from Venice (which is nowhere near Echo Park) due to high housing prices there. I deleted the references to Mayberry and Alessandro because Mayberry is not a neighborhood in Los Angeles and Alessandro St. is in Silver Lake - it is not a separate area.

Mayberry Street is in northern Silver Lake, the reference was probably to that area.

Response[edit]

Well, of course you are wrong about rents, and you exagerate the numbers coming from Venice (There are probably more Midwesterners moving into Echo Park than those from Venice), and those who actually LIVE in Mayberry would beg to differ with you. Mayberry street is half in South-eastern Silverlake, and half in the Edendale quarter of Echo park. Also, Allessandro is situated in Echo Park, not Silverlake. The eastern boundry of Silverlake is Waterloo street.

To be fair, of course, many newbies who move into the area are unsure of the boundries, or are duped by over-zealous real-estate agents. I have run into folks who live on Landa Street (by the old goat trail), and which is entirely within the boundries of Echo Park, who think they live in Silverlake, even brag about it. There was a homeowner who angrily insisted his house was in Silverlake when I collecting signatures once. The fellow lived one block west from Glendale on Berkely, again, squarly within Echo Park. Thousands of people[edit]

This article seems to well establish that thousands of people live in Echo Park. I think they are all listed by name in one section or another, sometimes in more than one section. I'm almost surprised I'm not listed as a resident, even though we moved out in 1956.

I get the impression that the only thing notable about the area is the list of people. Is that really true? Is it necesary to list so many people to establish the notability of the area? The list should (1) contain only names that are Notable (with articles already written) and (2) have sources that affirm that they actually live or lived in Echo Park. Separate Park Article[edit]

Woody Guthrie[edit]

Woody Guthrie never lived in Preston Avenue, according to his biographer Ed Cray he only was a frequent guest at Ed Robbins' house there in 1939. It seems some fellow, GeorgeLouis, has been busy in his parents basement vandalizing the Echo Park page. Its pretty featureless, unexceptional and useless now. Such an interesting and historical place as Echo Park deserves better. We went to the 2015 Lotus Festival. There we found out that the City wants to separate the Echo Park "community" from the "park". The park is now known as Echo Park Lake. There are signs, sidewalk imprinted logos. Looking at the City's Department of Recreation and Parks, you will see that the press releases, flyers and announcements showing the Lotus Festival was to be held at "Event Location: Echo Park Lake, 751 Echo Park Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90026, United States" Preview of 35th Lotus Festival - Media Advisory Certainly the festival can't be held on water. We know the old timers still know the park as Echo Park, somewhat confusing. But it makes sense. We have photos to proof it, but no use of posting them here. History section needed[edit]

The area has a very rich history. I remember there used to be more information here on its history. What happened? Can someone bring it back that knows the area well and more importantly, has sources to cite for it?

A few interesting leads: - Echo park as cradle of the silent film industry and early development - Old victorian development - Reservoir and history of bringing water to LA - White-flight and decrease in income in the area - Return of influx of whites and hipsters post-2000

Historic Filipinotown[edit]
