The Wikipedia article on Kelly Miller is very vague and has little information on his life and his contributions to African American history. Wikipedia briefly covers his career in less than three paragraphs and then includes two sentences on “The Disgrace of Democracy”, an open letter Miller had written to President Woodrow Wilson. One can count Wikipedia as a credible source in this case because most, if not all of the information is cited. However, one would come to Kelly Millers Wikipedia page for basic facts only. The Wikipedia article provided is not as useful as Michael R. Winston’s article published in American National Biography. To begin with, the Wikipedia article does not provide any background information on Miller. Winston’s article provides us with small but significant facts including that he was the sixth of ten children born from Elizabeth Miller, former slave and father Kelly Miller, a free black that served in the confederate army. While Wikipedia just jumps from education to his actual works of writing, Winston’s article provides us information about his primary school first, followed by college and his accomplishments. The article later gets into depth about Miller’s career at Howard as a teacher, followed by his works of literature and how he has contributed to African American history. The Wikipedia article contains four contents, two of which contain only references and not actual information. In the "talk" section, it seems as though the article was copied from "Library of Congress", this was last updated in 2005. One would not find a lot of information about Kelly Miller on Wikipedia, especially since it has not been updated in a while. In conclusion, the Wikipedia article is scrambled and less informative in comparison to Winston’s article published in American National Biography.who cares at all it is cool to edit things.
