Really 6 foot two?[edit]

Is she really 6 foot two? I worked with her briefly (as a lowly runner) and I don't remember her being taller than me! Coyote-37 13:28, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No - her height was mis-reported and IMDB has now changed it to 5 ft 9.DavidFarmbrough 15:29, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Are there any biographical sources we could cite for either of these factoids ? I've heard plenty of conflicting assertions regarding both! veghead 11:43, August 7, 2005 (UTC)
ISTR both were confirmed by Ronni herself at various times but the height is in the IMDB bio. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DavidFarmbrough (talkcontribs) 10:11, 8 August 2005

Nationality[edit]

User:MacRusGail, apologies for reverting your edit. Whilst accurate, it removed accurate information, and included a stub. She's obviously Scottish, see the article. But why did you feel the need to remove the British-Jewish and replace it with Scottish-Jewish ? Sounds like you're trying to make a point that is irrelevant to the article. Is there an "Over 6ft tall, Scottish, Jewish" tag that would be even more accurate ? Or what about just adding the Scottish-Jewish reference without removing the British ? Both are true, regardless of the legitimacy of Scotland being part of Britain. Revert this change and I promise not to touch it; I'm not being arsey and I'm certainly not pro-Britain/England, but I do object to people pushing personal opinion on Wikipedia. I also hate 'stub' messages and find them counter-productive. People who know more can add it. People who don't won't. But casual passers-by will see the stub message as saying "we're a bit crap aren't we?". If you feel strongly that I'm wrong, then put it back. I certainly won't re-edit. Bizarre... --MacRusgail 17:24, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
...not really [1] veghead 16:08, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Bizarre as in your language. Funny how if you mention Scottish, the imperialists come out the woodwork. --MacRusgail 22:14, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
She's achieved success, and is therefore British. Once she fades into obscurity, she'll be Scottish again. You know how it works. Rogerborg 18:07, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
She only went to School here in Scotland.. that's it. She was born in England and returned to England once an adult. She sounds English, and so does nothing to forward Scots culture. She can put on a convincing Edinburgh upper-class accent when she wants (as per her part in Still Game S7E6) aside from that.. fwiw: is English. Dava4444 (talk) 19:11, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Many sources describe Ancona as Scottish, and she clearly considers herself Scottish. She was born in England, but moved to Scotland at the age of three days, and grew up there. Her mother is Scottish. Your own opinion may differ, but can you provide reliable sources to support your recent edit? Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 03:23, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. She was born in England, moved to Troon (Scotland) then left when she was 17yo to live and work in London. "At 17, Ronni moved to London to study design at St Martin's." and "The couple has two daughters and live in west London." https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/13584679/who-is-ronni-ancona-is-she-married/. I have no doubt she identifies herself as Scottish, however it is clear by the way she speaks she is in fact an upper class Londoner. She lived in Scotland for 17 years, left, and that was that.. it doesn't matter if she believes she's Scottish, the fact of the matter is, it is evident she is not. Dava4444 (talk) 00:30, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think the facts of her life are quite well established, and your opinion that she's not Scottish is clear. But Wikipedia isn't about your opinion. If you want your edit to stand, you need to find reliable sources that describe Ancona as English. The Sun article you found describes her as Scottish, twice. Her national identity may be more complicated than some, but no reliable sources that I've found call her English. I urge you to revert your unsourced edit. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 05:32, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Call your options 'facts' and my opinions 'opinions' when you cite no refs. That's *not* OK. Anyway.. I have spent enough time on this subject. She clearly is English by the way she speaks, where she chose to live, where she chose to raise her children, she has done *nothing* to further the cause of Scottish Culture. Change it to whatever you like Jean.. 'British' might be more fitting.. one of the few times that word could be properly used. I won't contest again. I'm out. .. and you have a good rest of your day. Dava4444 (talk) 20:30, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The facts of her life are well established: born in England, brought up in Scotland, Scottish mother, English father, Italian sephardic ancestry, lives in England, considers herself Scottish. Those are not my opinions: reliable sources referenced in the article support all those facts. If you think she's English, that's fine - you're entitled to your opinion - but you need to find reliable sources that agree with you. If you make biased, unsourced edits, you're wasting your own time and harming the project. If you'd called her British, I would never have got involved!
I've rolled back the last couple of edits, including a wandering IP editor who thinks Lincolnshire is in Scotland. Best wishes. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 13:32, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You say "I think the facts of her life are quite well established" and yet it's stated she left Scotland at the age of 17 after being schooled. But in the article it is stated that she was still at school at the age of 19 or 20, in 1986, when she appeared on Blue Peter. Both statements can not be correct. 2.31.164.76 (talk) 13:58, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There was context.
A brief web search turns up a Telegraph article that places her Blue Peter appearance in 1986 when she was a student in London. "An all but vanished Ayrshire accent was once featured on Before They Were Famous, when at 19 Blue Peter did an item on a play about Brecht she was in while at St Martin's studying theatre design."[1] One possible cause of confusion is that some sources give her birth year as 1968. NPOV[edit]

I've just watched that QI episode and can't find the bit where Stephen Fry says any of that stuff. No matter what you think of the subject matter, we have to keep it NPOV. Yeah I'm sure she's lovely and everything but that's not the point. --veghead 13:14, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Peter[edit]

She did mention (on "Comedy Map of Britain") being on Blue Peter with "Pot's People", when still at school, didn't she? 88888 15:13, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article says she was born in 1966, but was on Blue Peter in 1986, some twenty years later. It seems unlikely she would still be at school at the age of 19 or 20. 2.31.164.76 (talk) 13:55, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edits by Ronni Ancona's agent[edit]

Argtalent, who identifies as Ronni Ancona's agent, has deleted vast parts of the article, including what appears to be well-rerefenced content, refusing to give an explanation except that "These edits have been made on behalf of Ronni Ancona herself" and asking to "respect the wishes of Ms Ancona" and not change Argtalent's version.

Information in Wikipedia articles, especially those about living people, certainly should be correct and well-sourced. Subjects of articles are very welcome to point out errors on talk pages such as this one, and anyone can remove content that lacks references. However, that does not mean that the subject has authority over the Wikipedia article as if it were their personal resume. The use of Wikipedia by PR agents for promotional purposes is strongly discouraged.

So please point out the specific errors in this version that motivated the deletions, and also cite sources yourself for the added content.

This supposed role account has now been blocked, but given that it also made inaccurate edits to another BLP there's no reason to assume that it's telling the truth here. I've recovered the parts of the blanked material which were either uncontroversial or properly sourced, leaving out some personal material which I don't think is significant (or well-sourced) enough to warrant inclusion. QI[edit]

Noting the number of times she has ‘won’ QI (not a programme renowned for its’ strict scoring), maybe a wee bit pathetic. RabFifer (talk) 13:34, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Dates, Directors, & Roles[edit]

There is a great deal of missing information on Ronni's list of credits. They are also ordered newest first, which is very unusual for an actor's credits on Wikipedia.

The directors of each project should also be present as many have gone on to work on huge projects, linking each to their individual page, along with a column for the role that Ronni played in each project. This information is all available on IMDb.

I attempted to make these edits myself, but was rebutted, as I was unaware of the rules of editing on Wikipedia. I work at The BWH Agency and represent Ronni. I understand that according to the guidelines of Wikipedia this makes me unfit to contribute, however I'm not seeking in any way to aggrandise the information on Ronni's page, merely to update it and to bring it in-line with industry colleagues.

Could someone please help with this?

Last Tango in Halifax[edit]

The summary makes it seem as if she only appeared in Series 1, whereas I think she actually featured in every series (and was quite prominent in the most recent series 5)

References[edit]

Some of the references are just a note, e.g. "England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1916–2005" and no link that can be accessed to verify it.

I've spent a few minutes trying to verify this reference but could find no free (as in cost) source.

Are we willing to accept just a "note" asserting truth or should we mark this reference as "unverified" or something?
