Literal definition of "montage"[edit]

"Putting together"? Dictionary.com says the word is French, from monter, to mount. I think this is inaccurate. Quincy 22:29, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Here's the OED etymology: [< French montage (1914 in this sense; 1604 in an isolated attestation in sense ‘action of ascending’, 1765 in sense ‘operation of assembling the parts of a mechanism to make it work’) < monter MOUNT v. + -age -AGE.]
So you and the article are both right. Rhobite 22:52, Apr 23, 2005 (UTC)

Photo Essay link[edit]

This article was supplied with a link to photo essay which was relabeled with the text "photo montage." I think this is a little misleading (see, e.g., User:-Barry-'s comments at Talk:Photo_essay). Photo montages may also be photo essays, but not all photo montages are also photo essays. I've divorced the text from the link, as you can see. IMO this art form (which is also considered a propaganda technique, a media ethical abuse, and etc) is important enough to have its own page, if it doesn't already, or else links to multiple articles that discuss the genre. --Jeff Medkeff | Talk 19:40, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation?[edit]

So, is this a disambiguation page? If so, why is it a stub? Fagstein 16:56, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. Maybe it should contain a more detailed definition of "montage". Personally, I think the articles it connects to removes the need for the stub status --Bobitha
