Variation[edit]
We run a variation of this game in our Youth Group, which we call Mafia. Other than the name, it differs from the game described in several important aspects:
- we might have multiple criminals, the Mafia, depending upon how many are playing
- we have one or more further characters, the Doctors, who are allowed to save a single character after the kill segment. Obviously they do not know who has been killed, and often save themselves
- we do not eliminate those who have been wrongly accused. The players have to remember who has been declared innocent.

- There is really no need to list it. If we determine that they are the same game, we can just merge and redirect.
- First of all, I've never heard of "A village murder mystery game", but I've played "Mafia" with youth groups all over. Where is the former played? Anyone? I know it's "Mafia" in Ohio.
- The game, as I have played it (with wildly differing groups) always has at least two people in the "Mafia", a "Detective" (or whatever) and a "Doctor". I've never encountered any of the other oles listed under Mafia (game). Are these legitimate or is someone just putting in their own house rules? Also, of course, in Christian youth groups you usually kick someone out of town, you don't lynch them. ;) (And if you want to be really PC, the victims end up in the hospital...)
