Untitled[edit]

Gander was also notable for the number of persons from the former Warsaw Pact nations who defected there during the cold war. It was one of the few refueling points where airplanes could stop en route from eastern Europe or the Soviet Union to Cuba.

9/11[edit]

I had to add the main reason why so many flights and passengers landed in Gander as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon: Transport Canada and NAV CANADA asked that flights coming from Europe avoid the major airports in Central Canada, like Lester B. Pearson in Toronto and Montréal-Dorval as a security measure. Also, please do not change the name or link for Montréal-Dorval International Airport. It was that when 9/11 happened. -- SNIyer12(talk) 13:22 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

That might be a good reason not change the name of the link; I don't see why it would be a reason not to change the destination. Binabik80 (talk) 19:01, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

homosexual[edit]

What relevance is it that Kane was a homosexual? Is that somehow related to the history of the field? I suggest it be removed —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.79.153.209 (talk) 13:50, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Overambitious claim[edit]

Every plane travelling to and from Europe or North America must talk to either or both of these air traffic controls (ATC).

Should this be, "Every plane travelling between Europe and North America must talk to either or both of this air traffic controls"? As written, flights between Shanghai and San Francisco, Caracas and Miami, Lagos and Rome, or Karachi and Athens must talk to these air traffic controls. Merger proposal[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was to merge. Carguychris (talk) 19:20, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to merge Gander International Airport Authority into this page because the airport authority's history and responsibilities seem inexorably intertwined with the airport itself, and the topic seems brief enough that it can be easily covered on this page. Additionally, there is little precedent for an airport authority having its own separate Wikipedia article, except in certain cases where the body also oversees other major facilities, e.g. the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Carguychris (talk) 21:18, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Over two weeks have elapsed with no comments whatsoever, so I'm going ahead with the merger. Carguychris (talk) 19:20, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
