Untitled[edit]

Do we really need categories for individual COUNTIES? The only article in the category is Berkshire County, Massachusetts. So the category is pretty redundant.

I would say yes, they are needed. Articles or categories relating to each of the cities in Berkshire County should be added, as well as historical, artistic, and travel-related articles having to do with the region. --Beland 04:14, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Take another look at the category now, as well as the growing categories within other states that I and others have been working on. The county categories are for grouping together all the cities, towns, etc. within that county (which are also cross-listed under "Cities in [state]", etc.). There are many counties that don't even have political subdivisions (such as my home in Arlington County, Virginia), and even those that do still may have additional unincorporated areas that are properly associated with the county. Eventually, if wikipedia gets that detailed, it would even include county-level government structures and officials such as commissioners. The alternative to having such groupings is just to mass everything under the state category, which gets senseless and cumbersome pretty soon. Obviously it's going to take some time to fill these categories, but their value should be immediately evident if you really take a look at the groupings of state-related articles. • Keep. Have a look at Category:King County, Washington, which I've been working on over the last few days. Granted, there isn't as much written about Berkshire County as there is about King County, but Wikipedia is always expanding, and I think having the category is good for expansibility. Easier to add the category now than later. ShadowDragon 18:27, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Many of the towns are now included. I added Williams College and Mount Greylock. Perhaps more controversially, I also added two people who, although born elsewhere, are inextricably associated with Berkshire County: Norman Rockwell and Arlo Guthrie. JamesMLane 02:49, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)
