Spitfires/Bulldogs[edit]

Basically, the Spits were restarted in 1971. In 1973, they changed their name to the Bulldogs. In 1975, the city was granted an OHL club, so they changed the Bulldogs back to the traditional Spitfires and... well, there ya go. Funny though, the hockeydb doesn't even list the name change... As you can see by the current history on the page... that the Bulldogs name was never used. It was erroneously listed this way on a website (official game puck) and caused us a lot of confusion... four years ago... that has been long since cleared up. Because we don't usually delete past conversations on Wikipedia.... when a talk page gets really full, it gets archived... and there really hasn't been a lot of chatter on here. You'll see that from time to time... I personally know the guy I was conversing with, so we probably finished the conversation via e-mail or at a hockey game. BTW.. The Windsor Star is extremely informative about the SOJHL-era of the Spits... and their rivalries with Chatham, Guelph, and Detroit... we were able to disprove the "Bulldogs" claim by Official Game Puck through the Windsor Star. I imagine OGP had the Spits either mixed up with the old Sr. A team or the Royals/Bulldogs/Tec Chiefs/LS Vipers franchise. DMighton (talk) 03:08, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Split request[edit]

I have come across a source (Simcoe Reformer, 02/11/75, Pg 4) that explains that the original Spitfires moved in 1953 to Hamilton to become the Tiger Cubs. This makes the Original Spitfires a part of the Erie Otters lineage. I think these two Spitfires teams should be separated from each other. DMighton (talk) 20:09, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2010-2011 season[edit]

Original Windsor Spitfires[edit]

The actual original Windsor Spitfire team originated at the start of the second world war. They were part of the Michigan - Ontario league which consisted of semi-pro hockey players, who were under professional contracts with the NHL. The Windsor Team had a variety of talented players, including Ivan "Ching" Johnson, from Parry Sound, Ontario, and a current member of the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame.

Ching played for these Spitfires: Windsor Spitfires (1946–53). There were a Spitfires in the MOHL... but they were a senior club originally known as "Windsor Chrysler". DMighton (talk) 01:42, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
