Philosophy (Borrowed*)[edit]

If User:Athrash falls in a forest, is a sound heard?
Best wiki-advice: Follow the example, nothing original
here, except I did find my own tree falling.

On the other hand, NOR dictates everything has been said before, so all philosophy is borrowed, discussion lame.

I just finished rewriting the article and wanted to let you know that any additions or corrections would be greatly appreciated... • Freechild'sup? 19:32, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think a lot of the information on Jones' article, as well as the other articles in Category:Piney Woods Country Life School, could be "safely" repeated in the main article - but I'm out of energy to write more on that topic right now. Thanks for the feedback. • Freechild'sup? 05:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Richard the Marshal (image attributed to William)[edit]

Hi, I didn't upload that image. I used to upload a lot of manuscript images, but tended to do whole pages rather than details. That said, I do own Four Gothic Kings and if Hallam misidentified the figure in this image, that's probably the source of the confusion. Dsmdgold (talk) 16:03, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I pulled down my copy of Four Gothic Kings. The edition I have is 1st printing, 1st American Edition. (1987, Weidenfield and Nocholson). The scan is from 27. The Caption reads, "Above: The Earl Marshall rose to prominence through his prowess with lance and sword; here he unhorses Baldwin de Guisnes at a tournament in 1233." The context of the page on which it occurs makes it clear that "The Earl Marshall" refers to William.
Corpus Christi College has digitized its entire manuscipt collection. This image is in MS 016 (fol. 88r), and CCC has labelled the illustration as "Fight of Mareschall at Monmouth?Man leads horses off on L." Unfotunatley my Latin is not up to reading the text on this page, and even it were, I'm also not up to reading the Gotich script.
Monmouth, however, has to be reference to the Battle oF Monmouth, so it would seem that Hallam did indeed confuse the two Marshalls.
She is probably still alive (she would only be 69), but I doubt that she's going to do much to correct an error in a caption from a book first published 32 years ago, if indeed anything could be done at this late date. Dsmdgold (talk) 01:43, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
