The right to make a plea in mitigation in Australia is far from absolute. If I were stitched up, and I demanded to be able to make a plea in mitigation in Australia, the judge would probably bang me up extra for contempt of court, even if he wanted to transport me to Australia. Confusing sentence[edit]
I think this could be re-worded to make it clearer, but im having trouble understanding:
The Federal Public Defender recommends that defendants speak in terms of how a lenient sentence will be sufficient but not greater than necessary to comply with the statutory directives set forth in 18 U.S.C. § 3553(a).[3]
