First person singular pronoun[edit]

"English's practice of capitalizing the first person pronoun I started when I kept getting written as part of the preceeding, so it was capitalized to keep it separate."

The preceeding what? Word? Why not just not write it as part of the preceeding word? I don't really get this explanation. Does anyone have a clearer one? -- Oliver P. 03:38 May 9, 2003 (UTC)

Variant spelling[edit]

Is the variant spelling miniscule commonly used for minuscule letters? If so, the article should list it as a variant. If not, maybe something along the lines of:

Usage note: A recently appearing variant spelling miniscule is becoming increasingly common. However, this spelling is not widely used to refer to miniscule letters.

Without getting too prescriptive about it, "miniscule" is not a spelling "variant"; it's a spelling error. My dictionary (pub 2003) certainly doesn't mention it.

Minuscule, lowercase, ???[edit]

Wh't is the correspondence to "capital letters" in minuscules/lowercase letters??

Minuscule - Majuscule
Lowercase - Uppercase
??? - Capital letters

The correspondence to "capital letters" in minuscules/lowercase letters is called "small letters". At least in Hong Kong, "small letters" ~ "capital letters" and "lower case" ~ "upper case" are commonly called. 158.182.43.195 12:26, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Graphic improvement[edit]

An interesting article, which would surely benefit from the inclusion of a few illustrations of the early letterforms mentioned. Merger of the page would then be less attractive.

Lower case in Advertising[edit]

I, for one, have noticed a significant increase in the use of lower-case letters on TV and print adverts as well as labels on brand named products. For example: American Movie Classics or AMC changed their logo and advertising to all lower-case. If you walk through a supermarket you'll notice it, too. I'm not sure if there should be anything about this in the Lower-Case article, but I'll leave it to someone else (perhaps in the advertising industry who can explain the reason for it) to add it. --71.158.219.137 (talk) 23:45, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Little letters[edit]

Does anyone else know the term "little letters". I believe that is what I was taught as a child (in the UK). Until now I have never heard of "minuscule" or "small letters". If others agree then the first sentence of the article could be changed to "Lower case (also lower-case or lowercase), minuscule, or small/little letters are the ...".
