Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paruresis

  • This does not appear to be a recognised condition amongst academics, or government (including the official channels of the National Health Service) in the UK, though there is some recognition in the US. Is it a newly invented condition (a la dyslexia in the 70s)? The only people who talk about it are the International Paruresis Association, which does seem to be US government registered, and its regional subsidiaries. All references I've found talk about them. Vitally, like invented neologisms, etc, used by small numbers of people, should this be deleted? Mr. Jones 17:40, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • keep, appears to be genuine, but tidy - perhaps POV edit. Dunc_Harris| 17:31, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
    • The POV edit should make clear all the concerns of Mr. Jones; we have several articles on types of alternative medicine that are blatant quackery, but they should stay with an appropriate, er, health warning. Dunc_Harris| 17:45, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. I agree that it's a fine line. Other "new" diseases, like Wilson's Syndrome and fibromyalgia, will have supporters, too. The fact of the diagnosis should be reported, but the fact that its severity and significance is in doubt should also be reported. (Everyone is sick with something.) Geogre 17:52, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Giving it a name moves it a bit into fake disease territory, but "shy bladder" is a fairly well known condition. --Ben Brockert 22:06, Jun 25, 2004 (UTC)
