Saleh Obaid Ahmed is a member of the Yemeni Socialist party. He was the Minister of Defense of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen from 1986 until the Yemeni unification in 1990 under chairman Haider Abu Bakr al-Attas. After unification, he was oppointed deputy Prime Minister for Securty and Defense affairs. When Aden in Southern Yemen seceded in May of 1994, Saleh Obaid Ahmed served as the Minister of Defense of the Secessionist democratic Republic of yemen until the rebellion ended less than two months later.
