Fourth or third female prime minister in world?[edit]

The intro now says that she was "The world's fourth and Israel's first and only woman to hold the office" of prime minister. However this fact is not in the source cited at the end of the sentence so it is unsourced. And I have found another source here [1] which says that she was actually the third, after Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka, then known as Ceylon, in 1960 and Indira Gandhi of India in 1966. 156.34.182.246 (talk) 20:49, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, obviousely she was the third, it's a known fact (as correctly mentioned in other Wikipedias and in all sources). I think someone took a look at the list, considered Khertek Anchimaa-Toka to be the first (which she wasn't), and the rest is history. Anchimaa-Toka was not head of government, she was the "president" (actually chief of parliament, but you could say she was head of State of a sort) of a... not exactly a country. This is why in the article about Isabel Perón (Argentina), Perón is considered to be the first head of State. But, even if we considered it a country, and even if we considered her a president, she was NOT a head of government. So, Meir was the third. Also, it's curious the article mentions "first in the whole Middle East", while she was actually the first outside the Indian subcontinent in general (even first in the "Western world", if you will, depends on the definition of the concept). Date style[edit]

Why in the world are we using month-date-year for dates? She was best-known as an Israeli prime minister. Articles on Israeli subjects tend to use date-month-year style. Should it be obvious that this article should? Is there a reason it is using what I contend is the wrong style? SecretName101 (talk) 21:41, 19 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Despite being a socialist born in Russia (...)"[edit]

Wasn't Golda Meir born in Kyiv? Shouldn't it read "born in Ukraine", or "born in the Soviet Union"? 142.115.187.41 (talk) 19:27, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

From the source: "Documents released in 2013 showed that Meir did offer to discuss ceding “most of the Sinai,” but since she was not willing to return completely to the pre-1967 borders, Egypt rejected the talks." EytanMelech (talk) 14:21, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In "Resignation (1974)" section, where we can read "resigned as rime minister" we should read "resigned as prime minister". Please change it. 89.115.233.218 (talk) 12:52, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Israeli prime ministers in general are not elected[edit]

Apart from a brief period in the 1990s (which gave us Netanyahu, about whom the less said the better) Israeli prime ministers have not been directly elected. They take office upon receiving the President's mandate to form a government and then winning a vote of confidence in the Kenesset. So it was with Golda. I request to undo the recent edit made by User:Supreme_Deliciousness, which changed "Jerusalem, Israel" to "Jerusalem," citing "disputed claim".

As per this article by the New York Times, Golda Meir died in the Hadassah Hospital in Israel - the Hadassah hospital is within the green line (not in East Jerusalem) and as such it is undisputedly UN-recognized Israeli territory. This would also be in line with other Wikipedia pages, for example Yitzhak Navon.

(Hadassah hospital is located on Mount Scopus which was an Israeli enclave prior to 1967, and controlled by Israel as per the 1949 Armistice Agreements with Jordan) Xland44 (talk) 10:44, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Hadassah Medical Center has two campuses, one on Mount Scopus and one in the West Jerusalem neighborhood Ein Karem. One of the WP citations about her death ("Golda Meir - a political biography") mentions that she died in the Sharett Institute, which is a cancer treatment facility on the Ein Karem campus. So she died in West Jerusalem. StormWillLaugh (talk) 13:45, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done I agree with your assessment. However, read WP:OTHERSTUFF in regard to arguing that something should be a certain way because it is that way elsewhere on Wikipedia. Melmann 04:39, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Xland44, please provide a RS that shows that the UN and international community views West Jerusalem as being in Israel.--Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 05:55, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

in the sentence in the lead

"the first female head of government in the Middle East, and the fourth elected female head of government or state in the world."

please move the citation from the end of the sentence to "the first female head of government in the Middle East, [SOURCE] and the fourth elected female head of government or state in the world"

the source verifies the "first in middle east" but not "fourth in the world" 67.220.13.29 (talk) 02:36, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is impossible to travel from Naples to Tel Aviv "by ship", and the source under footnote 11 doesn't say that. Instead it should read: "by ship and train":

In 1921, after the conclusion of the war, the couple moved to Palestine, then part of the British Mandate, along with Meir's sister Sheyna, Sheyna's daughter, and Meir's childhood friend Regina. They sailed on the SS Pocahontas, from New York to Naples, then from there to Tel Aviv by ship and train. Meir's parents subsequently moved to Palestine in 1926.[1][2] 2001:1A81:74AD:2400:78C0:1A49:9DD7:3D16 (talk) 19:25, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: It doesn't say they travelled from Naples to Tel Aviv by ship, and therefore, I see no reason to change it. M.Bitton (talk) 19:26, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Meir's Role in Founding Kinneret Day School[edit]

Hi there, Golda Meir was instrumental in founding NY-based Kinneret Day School back when she served as Secretary of Labor. I've added an article on this school to Wikipedia along with a reference to an encyclopedia entry showing her involvelment. Link to Kinneret Day School. How can we add a blurb on Gold Meir's page to give her credit for founding this school? Coconut257! (talk) 16:21, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
