Infobox[edit]

If you're dealing with someone who is a polymath like that, it can be difficult to use an infobox (see Martin Lewis for a case where the subject has so many disciplines no one has bothered to attempt an infobox) . The best suggestion I could give you is for you to visit Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography and put the question to the editors involved with that project. They might be able to provide some guidance. You could always just use a generic Biography Infobox (there's a link to the template from the Wikiproject page) rather than try and nail down a particular style. If your subject is considered preeminent in one of the fields you mentioned, then you could probably pick a single style of infobox. For example, Hedy Lamarr was a noted inventor as well as an actress, but because she is is more widely regarded as an actress, an Arts and Entertainment-related infobox is more appropriate than one used for inventors (although it appears only a generic infobox was actually used for her). I hope this helps. 23skidoo 17:07, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding edits made to Þeyr[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Luis María Benítez! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \bvids\.myspace\.com\b, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. The Juniper Tree[edit]

I've tried to change the plot sumary of The Juniper Tree, please tell me what you think. You say that it's Jónas mother that apears, I've just re-watched the movie, and it is Margit's mother. Watch it again, she sais "I've seen my mother, By the see, and on the heath. I couldn't remember before. But now I do". Then Jónas mother comes as a raven with a feather. I don't think it's important to the plot sumary, so I left it out, if you want you can re-add it somehow. But Guðrún Gísladóttir dose NOT play Jónas mother, she's Margits mother.

The Juniper Tree is set in Iceland and portrays the story of two sisters, Margit and her elder sister Katla, who escape theyr home after theyr mother is stoned and burned for witchcraft. They go where no one knows them, and find Jóhann, a young widower who has a son called Jónas. Katla uses masical powers to seduce Jóhann and they start living together. Margit and Jónas become friend. But Jónas dose not exept his new stepmother, and tries to convince his father to leave her, but the powers of Katla's magic is to strong and even though he knows he should leave her, he can't.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cold Fever (DVD).jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cold Fever (DVD).jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:29, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Þeyr and Megas (Skálholtskirkja April 15 2006).jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Þeyr and Megas (Skálholtskirkja April 15 2006).jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Þeyr and Megas (Skálholtskirkja April 15 2006).jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 05:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Bassajól, by Mind meal (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Bassajól fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:
Artist notability unestablished; record label is privately produced; nothing at All Music Guide about artist. No relevant articles linking here.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Bassajól, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 07:52, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:VAKI-DNG_(Catch_sensor).JPG[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:VAKI-DNG_(Catch_sensor).JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 03:40, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Björk_Guðmundsdóttir_&_Tríó_Guðmundar_Ingólfssonar.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:36, 28 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:36, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Björk (Family Tree Beats).jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Björk (Family Tree Beats).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:42, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:KUKL (Press release for Naughty Nought).jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KUKL (Press release for Naughty Nought).jpg. AfD nomination of Brennu-Njálssaga (film)[edit]

I have nominated Brennu-Njálssaga (film), an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brennu-Njálssaga (film). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Brennu-Njálssaga (introduction).jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Brennu-Njálssaga (introduction).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:10, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Megas_LMB2b.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Megas_LMB2b.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 22:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Gulli Kristinn Óttarsson and Siggi Baldursson (Skálholtskirkja April 15 2006).jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because images on Wikipedia need to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License or another free license, which allow anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file, please understand that the vast majority of images found on the internet are not appropriate for Wikipedia. Most content on the internet is copyrighted and the creator of the image has exclusive rights to use it. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others - do not upload images that violate others' copyrights. In certain limited cases, we may be able to use an image under a claim of fair use - if you are certain that fair use would apply here, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list. If no fair use rationale applies, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 21:04, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson (Music montage LMB).jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Þeyr (Screenshot of Blood).jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Þeyr (Screenshot of Blood).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Σxplicit 19:30, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

⚠
Thanks for uploading File:Neol Einsteiger (Heitur Vindur).jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. A tag has been placed on Crusher of Bones requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Björk Guðmundsdóttir and Guðlaugur Óttarsson (KUKL).jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Björk Guðmundsdóttir and Guðlaugur Óttarsson (KUKL).jpg.

Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:47, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Favalorosmallmb.jpg[edit]

Nomination of Nýtt líf for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Nýtt líf is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nýtt líf until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. File permission problem with File:Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson LMB.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson LMB.jpg, which you've sourced to Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson.. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:15, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project[edit]

Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I will be in Buenos Aires from the 10th - 11th of March 2012.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project!

Thank you,

Victor Grigas

Non-free rationale for File:Þeyr (members) LMB1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Þeyr (members) LMB1.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Þeyr (members) LMB1.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Þeyr (members) LMB1.jpg.

File permission problem with File:Lobos (coat).png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lobos (coat).png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included.

Thank you. Kelly hi! 08:22, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, at deWP we discussed your great illustration of receding glaciers and all the geographical features. We came to the conclusion, that you placed the kettles (#9) at a wrong place. Kettles always are behind the terminal moraine. Your illustration seems to assume that in an earlier epoch a glacier spread further and left the kettles behind. How much work would it be to correct the drawing? And do you have the time for it? --h-stt !? 16:50, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Request for translation into Spanish[edit]

Dear Luis Maria Benitez, I am wondering if you would be willing to translate the English biography "Ariel Fernandez" into Spanish and post it in the Spanish Wikipedia replacing the extant version. The latter seems to have been composed by someone with a connection to the subject. Thanks much for your attention. My email is ariel@afinnovation.com With best regards, Ariel Fernandez.186.138.183.140 (talk) 00:54, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Todmobile albums requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read!
