One hell of a name, don't you think!—Preceding unsigned comment added by Longevitymonger (talkcontribs) 23:42, 9 April 2003 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the last line that commenting on the weirdest of Lamar's name. I just didn't think that it was of any pertinence to comment on the "weirdest" of the subject's name. Jpcarver—Preceding undated comment added at 17:55, 4 May 2003 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Jpcarver, yes it is one helluva name, i know it well, considering he is my ggg grandfather. I'm from Oxford, Mississippi as well, however I'm only going to be a senior in high school next year, All Saints Episcopal School, some crazy boarding school my parents sent me to in Vicksburg. But anyway, at least someone had something to say about old 'Luche' as he was called, at all. Later. -Daniel Clay Lamar Killingsworth III Oxford, Mississippi—Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.169.82.113 (talk) 06:38, 9 July 2003 (UTC)[reply]

I expanded the article a bit to cover his early life and career; I think it still needs to mention the Eulogy of Charles Sumner, and perhaps his inclusion in Profiles in Courage. I may get around to it in a few days, but if someone else wants to tackle it that's fine by me. --BBFlatt 13:55:28, 2005-08-23 (UTC)

Nice name[edit]

This guy easily wins for the longest name in the US Supreme Court.—Preceding unsigned comment added by YixilTesiphon (talkcontribs) 02:28, December 2005 (UTC)

He is, of course, named after the Roman dictator Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus. – Quadell (talk) 13:10, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

– Per WP:ONEOTHER. Similar situations had existed at the former Lon Chaney and Ross Bagdasarian disambiguation pages which listed Lon Chaney Sr. and Lon Chaney Jr. as well as Ross Bagdasarian Sr. and Ross Bagdasarian Jr.. Since there have been only two men named Lon Chaney, two men named Ross Bagdasarian along with two men named Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar and the elder Chaney and Bagdasarian were never referenced as "Sr." during their lifetimes, the dab pages for the two Chaneys and the two Bagdasarians have been deleted and the dab page for the two Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamars should be likewise deleted. A hatnote atop Lon Chaney states, "For his son, see Lon Chaney Jr.", a hatnote atop Ross Bagdasarian states, "For his son, see Ross Bagdasarian Jr." and a hatnote atop Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar II states, "This article is about the U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice. For his father, a Georgia lawyer and judge, see Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar I." Since the more-prominent son was not known with the generational suffix "II", there is no need to use it. Anyone searching for the father's entry already has the hatnote at the son's entry without the need of going through the dab page. — Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 20:59, 19 April 2020 (UTC) Relisting. buidhe 00:17, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article rewrite[edit]

Greetings other Wikipedians! Not sure if it necessary to put this here, but I thought I would just as a heads up. I've been doing a heavy rewrite of this page in my sandbox, and while I'm not fully finished with it yet over there, I'll be transferring it over as I finish (feel free to check out the progress!). I've read and been citing from his most recent biography on him for context, though I've been pulling from a prior biography and other scattered information on him.

Anyway, cheers, and here's to hoping for a productive rewrite.
