Correia (Portuguese and Galician for "leather strap") is a surname of Portuguese and Galician origin, also spelled Corrêa. The Spanish variant became Correa. Origin: Latin corrigia (leather belt, gird, harness). Correia and Correa are found throughout all of the Iberian Peninsula.
