Census[edit]

Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help. Can you include the census for 2020 in the population? Also it would be helpful if you included a line chart or scatter plot for the census population

Outdated?[edit]

The description of the county as politically very conservative is rather outdated. It went for Kerry by 14 points this time. It went for Rendell by 32 points in 02. It went for Gore by 11 in 2000. Another sign of changing demographics: in 2000, Santorum, a very conservative Republican, won the county by 10 points. In 04, Specter, a much more moderate Republican actually from the Philly suburbs, won it by only 8. So clearly the region is, like many other traditionally Republican suburban areas, nowhere near being a safe Republican county anymore, and seems to be becoming more and more Democratic. john k 00:06, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

How does Aston Township relate to Chester?[edit]

An old Who's Who lists Isaac Dutton Bernard as being born in Aston Township. His wikipedia page says he's from Chester, Pennsylvania. Have the boundaries changed over time or something? Badbilltucker 18:26, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bala-Cynwyd is Not in Delaware County[edit]

The sentence in the Media section about television studios in Bala-Cynwyd doesn't belong here, since they're in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, PA. --Luciuskwok 20:39, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Official Names of Two of the School Districts?[edit]

I noticed that two of the school districts are listed with the word "Delco" in their names. I've lived in the Philadelphia area 20 years now, although all of this time has been spent in a suburban area on the other side of the city from Delaware County. I've seen references to Penn-Delco School District and Southeast Delco School District in the Philadelphia Inquirer, just as I've often seen the name "Delco" as an abbreviation for the county's name in headlines in this paper and elsewhere.

Is the word "Delco" in the name of either of these school district official? If so, was there ever a time when the name "Delaware County" was spelled out in either of them before eventually being changed to just "Delco"? If the name of either school district contains "Delaware County" instead of "Delco", this should be noted here (and also in its own Wikipedia entry) with a notation that it is popularly called by the form of the name that contains "Delco". You're probably not going to read this but maybe somebody wanting to know the same information will in the future so it won't be a complete waste. Those school districts you reference are consolidated school districts. Don't Discriminate[edit]

The income per capita is lower than surrounding municipalities and the County as a whole, the GDP per capita is lower than surrounding areas, the unemployment rate is far higher than surrounding areas, current job growth is below national average, future job growth is below national average.[1]. Not entirely sure what the original context of this post was, but not only is it verifiable fact that Chester, PA is economically depressed, it's far from "discriminatory" to say such. Picture ideas[edit]

It would be great if somebody could add some pictures of the Swedish Cabin area with a little section about it as well as the Millbourne area where the first mills in the Philadelphia area were built. In that same general area, a picture of the Sellers library would be great as well, as that is a historically important plot of land and building. A picture of the 69th St area would be great as well, and the terminal/El and some trolley and bus pics would be great for the Transportation section. Under Recreation, it would be great if somebody could get a picture of people fishing during trout season, as that is a big event in some parts of the county and many people enjoy fishing along the Darby Creek. Some pictures of the airport area would be great as well. Also in Tinicum, some pictures of the Lazaretto are definitely needed. Under Municipalities, having some pictures (or even a collage) of the different large municipalities in the county (Upper Darby, Chester, etc) would be great. Under Geography, it would be great to have pictures of the dense neighborhoods of Chester, Marcus Hook, Clifton Heights, Darby, Upper Darby, Millbourne, East Lansdowne, etc, then pictures of some of the more suburban parts of the county, and lastly pictures of more rural and exurban parts of the county and the open space and nature present throughout the county, to give a sense of how varied the county really is.24rhhtr7 (talk) 10:50, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]


Additional Sections Needed[edit]

This page could really use a "Culture" section, an "Economy" section, and a "Notable People" section. The History section needs to be expanded greatly as well.

Agree wholeheartedly that History (esp. early) needs much work. Section needs citation(s). Why are none of the Histories listed in the County libraries' card catalog cited? compact?[edit]

Compact is a term used to describe the size of an area. I'm sorry if you never learned this and thus think it isn't a real term. Funny thing is, I did provide a reliable source, the list of counties in PA by area. upper middle class (sic)[edit]

Starting here, it suggests more information, which for Economic characteristics shows that no about 9% of the county's households fall below $15k, 18% below $25k. (See this and this for relevance). First of all, (sic) is one of the most annoying and overused terms in the English language. I'm sorry, do you not know that upper-middle class exists as a term or are you just being condescending for the heck of it?
9% is not a majority (and neither is 27%), therefore the MAJORITY of the county is not working class or even lower-middle class (also exists as a term and if you want to get smart about it then look it up). The majority of the county is middle class and upper-middle class. That is an indisputable fact. First of all, who is "we" and why does it always seem to include you? Secondly, I clearly used facts, and you CLEARLY used a personal attack first by acting like "compact" wasn't a real term and like "upper-middle class" wasn't either, all because you don't understand either concept. That's because unlike you, I'm not indirect in my insults. If you want to play dumb and act like you haven't been condescending or personally attacked others then go right ahead but I'll call you out on it every single time when it's directed at me. You questioned the veracity of UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED terms all because you don't know what they mean. Rather than say "Hey, could you explain this term to me?" you get snarky and condescending and talk like they aren't real terms. Then you accuse me of personal attacks. "row officers"[edit]

Redirects[edit]

How does one deal with "*** Redirects to..." That are wrong?

In the Pittsburgh and Susquehanna Railway, it references a predecessor line that built between Philipsburg and Fernwood Pennsylvania. That Fernwood Pennsylvania redirects here, but is actually located in Clearfield County, located between Houtzdale and Janesville, roughly adjacent to Ramey. - J.D. Politics[edit]

The political section seems to feature a lot of subjective opinion that should likely be removed - who decided that the elections of Nusrat Rashid and Jack Stollsteimer were significant, for instance? I understand that they were "firsts" in the County, but that's not really relevant information about the political makeup of the County. Mentioning "Blue Wave" feels odd. There is a better way to demonstrate that the County has shifted blue, but right now it reads as subjective opinion of 2 randomly elected people. You could similarly cherry-pick other elections as "firsts" even if not significant.

--Reading through the section again, it has little to not flow. It's very piecemeal and lacks proper sourcing and repeats information (ie mentions that Democrats gained control of Council in 2019 multiple times). Largest City[edit]

It's misleading to list Chester as the largest city in the county. While Pennsylvania's idiosyncratic labeling of some communities as 'cities' vs. townships and boroughs does mean that Chester is the most populous entity with the actual 'city' label, a person looking for information about the county would not probably be aware of that and would expect to find out what is the largest self-governing community. By a normal person's standards, Upper Darby is the largest city in the county, having something like 2.5x Chester's population. SalamionRye (talk) 19:15, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
