Length[edit]

The length doesn't seem to be consistent. The table says 350 km but the main article says 435 km - SimonLyall 00:41, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

According to [1] (in dutch) the length is 350 km. I changed the value in the text accoridingly. Donar Reiskoffer 06:33, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

The link to river length is long dead (last updated in 1999); in addition, managed to discover, that almost every Wiki states different length for this particular river... perhaps it's shorter in summer time and vice versa, longer in winter...) --Pietade 20:04, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Disputes between the Netherlands and Belgium[edit]

In 2005 Flanders and the Netherlands signed a treaty whereby the Netherlands would allow deepening works to be carried out in the Western Scheldt. The Port of Antwerp considers these works to be vital for its survival as a major port. The environmental lobby in the Netherlands, however, has been successful in implementing delaying tactics and so far (October 2009) these works have not been started. Commercial interests in Belgium suspect that the Balkenede government in the Netherlands has succumbed to pressure from Rotterdam and that the environmental arguments are simply an excuse. This is the latest in a long series of disputes with the Netherlands over the freedom of navigation in the Scheldt. Might be worth a mention in this article? Everybody got to be somewhere! The Map[edit]

Can we talk here? The map is useless to the article. Apparently this important navigable river passes Antwerp, a city of some stature itself, yet Antwerp is not indicated on the map, nor any other town mentioned in the text. The blue color on the map is fine for rivers, but contrasts poorly with the brown chosen for the land, so should not have been used for the names of the rivers. The lack of contrast exaccerbates the problem that the name of the river on the map is not spelled the same as the title of the article.Cardiffman (talk) 02:19, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
